Google Inc. the world’s largest company ventured in the smartphone segment on their own last year with Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL. The phones were great and though weren’t as successful as their dominant competitors, i.e. Apple Mobiles and Samsung Phones, they still made their mark. As of yesterday, we have seen another news – Google Launches Google Pixel 2. The company launched two phones yesterday at an event held in San Francisco, CA, USA – The Google Pixel 2 and the Google Pixel 2 XL. The two phones are the successors to the Pixel series launched by Google last year.
Google Pixel 2 Prelude
The phones had been teasing the public for a long time and a launch was expected soon, that came in on October 4, 2017. The two phones are said to be far better and updated than what was presented last year. The phones were being talked a lot about and had been the centre of attention after Samsung Galaxy Note 8 launch and Apple iPhone 8 launch. Both the top phones are the target of Google, and the company wants to take on the giants in terms of not just sheer performance, but also in terms of usability and experience.
Google Pixel 2 Specifications
Google Pixel 2 will be running the world famous Snapdragon 835 SoC Octa-Core chipset (4 x A53 @ 2.35GHz + 4 x A53 @ 1.9GHz) and will be running on 4GB of RAM for superior multitasking. The phones will come in two memory variants – 64GB and 128GB storage. The memory will not be expandable.
The Pixel 2 will have a Full HD 5-inch Cinematic 127-mm display, while the Pixel 2 XL display will be a 6-inch QHD+ P-OLED display at a pixel density of 538ppi and 18:9 aspect ratio. The phones will be protected by 3D-Corning Gorilla Glass 5. While the Pixel 2 will have a 2700 mAh battery, the Pixel 2 XL will have a larger 3520 mAh one.
Both the phones will come with Android v8.0 pre-installed. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are among the first ever phones to come with Android v.8.0. The best part is that the phones will run on pure stock Android, which means no bloatware and no unnecessary blocks by the manufacturer. You get to extract the full potential of your phone with all the native features accessible.
Google Pixel 2 Camera
The camera of the Pixel 2 last year surprised many people with the amazing quality of images that it took. Also, the UI and the algorithm was unique in its own way. The cameras of this year’s phones are expected to take it to the next level. The company claimed to have gotten a near-perfect score of 98 on the DxOMark standard. This is amazing as it means that the Pixel 2 camera quality is top-notch and will be better than even iPhone X and Galaxy Note 8, despite their dual-cameras and dual-OIS systems.
The rear camera will have a 12.2 MP sensor with a f/1.8 lens supported by OIS & EIS. The front camera will have an 8MP sensor with a lens aperture of f/2.4.
Google Pixel 2 Prices & Special Features
The ‘different’ features of the Pixel 2 include the absence of the 3.5 mm jack and using the USB-C port for the charging as well as music. In absence of a dongle like Apple provides, you won’t be able to charge your phone while listening to music. Another feature is that of a squeezable display, a feature that was seen in HTC U11. You can press the screen with more pressure to detect a different stimulus to perform a different action such as launch the camera or messages or make a call etc.
The Google Pixel 2 was announced at $649.00 for 64GB variant. The Google Pixel 2 XL will be priced at $849.00. These prices conform to AED 2400 and AED 3120 respectively. This makes this year’s Pixel phones costlier than last year. Pre-orders are to begin from October 26. The phones will go on sale from November 1 for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL from November 15.
