Sony Xperia announces two mid range phones in Xperia R1 and Experia R1 Plus

Sony has launched two mid-range devices Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus. The multinational conglomerate known for making premium smartphones has launched two mid-range phones. These devices which are sporting the same design will be available in silver and black colour options.

The Similarities Between R1 & R1Plus

Both the phones have the generic loop design with a plastic body with 2.5D curved glass. The duo will be running Nougat that will be upgradeable to the latest Android Oreo and have the Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor. The other common features these phones include are Type-C connectivity, dual-SIM 4G LTE support, Bluetooth 4.2, 2620mAH battery, 13MP rear camera and 8MP front-facing camera.

Both the devices sport the LED flash and Exmor Sony sensor. The rear-camera of these phones features the Sony’s Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, which uses motion prediction and object tracking technology to focus on moving objects.

The Differences

Although both the smartphones have similarities, Sony Xperia R1Plus has the upper hand in terms of the performance and hence it is comparatively more expensive. Sony Xperia R1 Plus comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB. While the Sony Xperia R1 has 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage which can also be expandable up to 128GB.

Both the phones which has the same 5.2inch TFT display with 1280 x 720p resolution, do not have the front-facing speakers, unlike the other Sony premium smartphones.

UDC & 4G Broadcast Ready

Sony has also included the Uplink Data Compression(UDC) technology in these phones to support fast upload and browsing. This technology compresses the data that is to be sent to the tower which improves the overall performance of data transmission. Thanks to this technology, the web pages in this phone can load up to 50% faster. These phones are also equipped with “4G Broadcast Ready” feature. Sony believes that this will give a better experience of live streaming, file delivery, and even real-time streaming.

Conclusion

Sony is really targeting to grab more customers by making mid-range smartphones. It is fair to say that Xperia R1 and Xperia R1Plus is different from all the Sony phones released a few months back. You don’t find many Sony smartphones having sizable bezels on all sides. With great features available for reasonable prices, Sony R1 and R1Plus should be a good buy.
