Sony has been an important player in the phones market for quite some time now. Though Sony never took the number one spot like Samsung or Apple Inc., they never went out of the game either (read Nokia). They’ve managed to stay relevant in the phone industry, taking right decisions at the right time, bringing the right phones in the right market at the right time. Sony has been giving quality products for long now.

The latest venture from Sony came out at the MWC,2017 at Barcelona, where Sony launched 4 smartphones – Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZs, Xperia XA1, Xperia XA1 Ultra. All four smartphones belong to the Xperia X series.

The XZ Premium is the successor of the last release of Sony, the Xperia XZ and is a high-end phone. The XZs is a smaller variant of the Xperia XZ. On the other hand, the XA1 and the XA1 Ultra are successors of the Sony Xperia XA. We have gathered info about the phones – and the phones are excellent. With some top-notch specs, all the four phones have been timed perfectly by Sony and will definitely create an appreciable fan base.

Sony Xperia XZ Premium

The XZ Premium is the successor of the XZ. It is bound to be better than it successor. Powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 SoC processor, coupled with 4 GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, Xperia XZ is going to feature Android 7.1 Nougat. This is the first instance of Android v7.1 coming factory installed in a phone. Being a high end phone, it is but natural for a high-end Adreno 540 GPU to be present for graphics performance.

We’ll get a memory expansion option (up to 256 GB), but according to Sony, the phone’s camera will be its USP. A 19MP Motion Eye™ Camera w/ a 1/2.3” sensor that will perform 5x faster image scanning than even the best mobile, according to Sony.  The 1/2.3” Exmor RS™ for mobile memory stacked sensor will let you capture videos at a mind-boggling frame rate of up to 960fps; This means you can take “super slow motion” videos. Also, a 13 MP front camera will take better images than many of the main cameras of so many phones. The front camera will have 1/3.06” Exmor RS™ for mobile image sensor w/ 22mm Wide-angle lens w/F2.0 aperture for selfies. The phones will connect to 4G/LTE, 3G UMTS HSPA+ and 2G GSM GPRS/EDGE bands.

This phone will be available for purchase very soon and stands directly in line with iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Who knows, maybe Xperia will be tough competition for Galaxy S8 as well. Let’s see!

Sony Xperia XZs

A ‘smaller’ version of the Xperia XZ, the XZs will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 SoC processor w/ Adreno 510 GPU and 4 GB RAM. Available in 32GB and 64GB variants, the memory will be expandable up to 256GB. With a battery of 2900mAh, and besides weighing around 161 grams, the rest of the XZs is identical to its predecessor.

Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra

Xperia XA1 Ultra, resemble their predecessor from last year in terms of design. The XA1 ultra will be large with a 6.0” screen powered by MediaTek P20 octa-core w/ Mali T880 MP2 900MHz GPU. XA1 Ultra will come with 4GB RAM with 32GB/64GB internal memory expandable by 256GB.

Just like the XZ phones, the XA1 Ultra is focussed on the camera. With a 23MP Hybrid AF camera w/ Exmor RS™ for mobile memory stacked sensor, 24mm Wide-Angle Lens and f/2.0 aperture, the XA1 Ultra has been loaded with the best features and maximum resolution possible with today’s technology. The front camera will have an effective resolving power of 16MP OIS- AFalong with an Exmor RS sensor w/ flash, 23mm wide-angle lens and f/2.0 aperture.

With a rather modest battery of 2700mAh, the phone will support all 4G/LTE, 3G UMTS HSPA+, and 2G GPRS/EDGE bands.

Sony Xperia XA1

Xperia XA1 is smaller than the XA1 ultra. It will have a smaller screen (5-inch), 3GB of RAM, 32 GB storage, and 2300mAh battery. Not just that the front camera too will be just 8 MP with no flash and no OIS either, compared to the 16MP camera of the XA1 Ultra. Other specifications are the same. The XA1 is primarily intended to be a little more budget friendly phone, with the same features scaled down a little; but perform the same nonetheless.
All the phones will be available for purchase in markets soon. We’re expecting the phones to be available in UAE in the next couple of months. But one thing is for sure; they will not be priced cheaply. The specifications of each of these phones are very good and will definitely prove to be performers. Their prices will be different in different countries and Sony hasn’t made any announcement about it either. How will the latest phones fare in the markets? Well, let’s see when they hit the markets. Our best wishes to Sony.
