Xiaomi, as a phone manufacturer has captured a large share the smartphone market in a very short span of time. Their phones have been applauded by users and critics alike for being durable, beautiful and star performers. The brand found the most raves for the Redmi and Mi series of their phones and continues to be a favourite of large population all around the world. Lately, the news of a new phone from the Chinese smartphone maker had been doing rounds. The phone has turned out to be the Mi 5X, a phone that can be considered the abridged version of the Mi 5, that was launched last year.
The Mi 5X is supposed to be a smaller variant of the Mi 5 i.e. it will be a little modest regarding its specifications and configuration. A poster released in China said a 5.5” inch screen and the SnapDragon 625 Octa-Core Chipset would be installed on the phone. Also, the poster said that the phone would have 4GB of RAM. These configurations clearly hint at the midrange of the pricing segments. The device will offer very good performance for people who want more than just a basic smartphone, but at the same time don’t wish to shell out a huge amount of money from their pockets. This phone fits in perfectly in the class of the Moto G5 Plus, Asus Zenfone 3 and Lenovo P2.
With 4GB of RAM, the phone will have the best in class memory. Apart from memory, the phone will have a bright FHD Display. A full HD display is very common nowadays. The most appropriate reason for companies not putting up 4K displays is that it is very difficult to build a 4K display within just 5.5 inches and to keep the power consumption low at the same time. Even the current ruler of the Android market, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has only a QHD+ Super AMOLED display. An FHD display will work just fine.
Another very interesting aspect of the phone is that we’ll get to see a dual-camera setup on the rear panel of the Xiaomi Mi 5X. The trend for having dual-cameras has caught up, and every company is frantically investing more and more into making this ‘newest feature’ work the best. Although stereo cameras have been around for a long time now, this is indeed new for the phone industry. So, kudos to Xiaomi. There are no other phones in its class with dual-cameras. This is a brilliant move on the company’s part. The resolution and other camera specs are under wraps as of now.
On the software part, the phone will run on the MIUI 9, the custom OS from Xiaomi mounted upon Android v7.1.1 Nougat. MIUI is completely open source. This means you can meddle with the source code as you like without any worries; makes up the perfect package for programmers.
The only hurdle in the way of the company so far was the FCC certifications. The company has now obtained them, and the date for the release is set – July 26, 2017. The phone will be released within a week and made available for purchase very soon. The phone will have a 3000 mAh battery and a 3-choose-2 Hybrid SIM slot. Good luck Xiaomi!
