Alcatel has been able to manufacture some decent smartphones. One of the hit offerings from the Alcatel was it “Alcatel Flash Plus” smartphone. The smartphone was able to do well in the markets. To cash on the success of the Alcatel Flash Plus smartphone, Alcatel, launched its “Flash Plus 2” smartphone. The phone offers a range of features that too at an affordable price tag. So, let’s see how this smartphone works in real life.
The Alcatel Flash Plus 2 has a premium appearance and shares a lot of design cues from its predecessor. The use of brushed aluminium finish at the back panels and the exceptional build quality gives this phone a premium look. The phone, however, is not unibody and its back cover is removable. Beneath the back cover could be found the SIM card and microSD card slots. The volume rocker and the power buttons are provided on the right edge of the phone, while the 3.5mm earphone jack is provided on the top of the phone. A physical home button is provided in the phone that also doubles as the fingerprint scanner. The external dimensions of this phone are 6.01 x 3.01 x 0.32 inches and weighs 157 grammes, which again is reasonable. The Alcatel Flash Plus 2 is available in three colour variant i.e. Venus Gold and Luna Silver. The display of the phone features a 5.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that shall provide a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and roughly translates to 401 pixels-per-inch pixel density. The display is also protected by a Dragontrail glass that makes it resistant to scratches. The full HD display makes sure that the users have an amazing viewing experience. The viewing angles appear to be decent, but sometimes we did observe some colour shift when the phone was viewed from different perspectives. The sunlight legibility is decent too. Overall, the design and display of the phone at its price tag are fantastic.
The phone is powered by an Octa-core (4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.0 GHz Cortex-A53) processor which is be backed by a Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 chipset. The processor provided in the phone is one of a kind and makes this phone one of the first to feature the Helio P10 chipset. With the provided hardware configuration, playing all sorts of games and videos is not a problem. However, some lag or stutter was observed while playing graphic intensive games like Asphalt 8. Overall, we believe that the processor falls short at places, however, at the current price tag, one cannot complain much. The smartphone comes in two models i.e. 16 GB with 2 GB RAM or 32 GB with 3 GB RAM. The internal memory could be expanded up to 256 GB using the microSD card slot provided in the phone. The phone runs on Android platform and works on Android OS, version 6.0.1 i.e. Marshmallow. The phone supports 4G/LTE networks and allows dual SIM compatibility.
The phone feature a 13MP, f/2.0 primary camera that would be supported by phase detection autofocus and dual tone dual-LED flashlight. The front camera comes with 5 MP camera. HD Video recording can be done by the camera at frames like 1080p@60fps. The images captured by the camera are decent, and that’s about it. The images captured by the phone lack a certain amount of detail and appear to be washed out. The low light performance is mediocre, and lots of noise seems to creep in the photograph. The smartphone features loudspeaker that we found could get loud enough. A 3.5mm audio jack with active noise cancellation and a dedicated mic is also provided in the phone.
The battery provided in the smartphone is a 3000 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. The battery promises a standby time up to 528 hours on 2G networks and up to 405 hours on 3G networks, talk time up to 16 on 2G networks and up to 15 hours on 3G networks. The battery promises a music playback time up to 54 hours. In day to day life, the battery seems to fall short to run for a complete day with heavy usage. The battery also supports fast charging. The phone has other basic functions, such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot., Bluetooth Version 4.1, A2DP, A-GPS, Stereo FM radio, RDS and microUSB v2.0. Apart from fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass sensor are provided in the phone.
