The iPad Air 2 is one of the best tablets available in the market today. With its great display, superfast processor and stunning looks, the iPad Air 2, helped Apple maintain its position as the best tablet manufacturer in the world. With such a high benchmark set, plans are already underway to get the next tablet in the market, the iPad Air 3. It is slated to be released in October 2016 and is expected to have a faster processor and be lighter and thinner.
Apple could keep the size of the iPad Air 3 same as the Air 2 and pack in more powerful innards, but it is expected that Apple will probably go for a slimmer tablet than its predecessor. Features like heavy duty in the iPad Pro will probably not be there as Apple would want to emphasize on the “Air” name and make it more lightweight. The slimmer design would mean that there will be a compromise in battery size. However, with the more power efficient A9 chips, there will be no significant decrease in battery life.
The screen will probably be the same as the iPad Air 2, that is, 9.7 inches. There might, however, be improvements in the screen brightness and the colour and clarity of the screen. The screen will probably feature a resolution of 2048x1536, giving it a pixel density of 264 ppi.
We can expect Apple to pack the Air 3 with its A9 chip at least considering that it gave the iPad Pro an A9X chip. The upgrade from the A8X chip present in the Air 2 will mean improvements in performance and more efficient battery usage. We, however, expect the RAM to stay the same as there have been no improvements in the other Tablet RAM’s as well. The Air will therefore probably have a 2GB RAM.
Storage ranges in the iPad’s are generally 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. We are expecting that Apple will probably phase out the 16 GB storage option and just have a 64GB and a 128GB storage option. Air 3 will also sport the new iOS 10. The iOS 10 will be smarter and user friendly with home screen widgets and third party Siri support.
With a decrease in size, Apple is unlikely to improve its camera size. There can be 8MP for the new Air 3. However, you can expect an increase in camera resolution. The front camera is also expected to remain the same.
Many features like the Touch ID is likely to stay. Apple is expected to say the 3D touch a big no-no. Apple has faced some production issues with the touch technology, hence it does not appear in other tablets either. Other Pro features like the Pencil support and Stereo Sound will also be absent.
The battery on the Air 3 will be smaller if Apple wants to keep its promise of having a slim and lightweight device. However, the reduction in power will not affect battery life if Apple decides to go with the more power efficient A9 chip.
