The rumour about iPad Pro had been hitting the ears for a little over two years. Eventually, it culminated when Apple had announced iPad Pro in the month of September in 2015. In Apple iPad Pro, you enjoy the privilege of deciding whether you want the optional accessories- pencil and keyboard. The iPad Pro is equipped with a 12.9-inch display, which makes it the largest tablet and the largest handheld device ever running on iOS. Pencil is a stylus powered by a battery and houses all the technology needed for taking measurements with precision. The second device which is also a first by Apple is the Smart Keyboard. It is a foldable keyboard dock/kickstand, which you can use with the iPad Pro and yes, you have to buy it separately. There is more to Apple iPad Pro than meets the eye. Let us find out the features in our detailed review –
iPad Pro is just like the celebrated iPad. Of course, the former is a lot larger in size. The width (display size and resolution) of iPad Pro should be at least that of iPad 2. The iPad Pro’s dimensions are 305.7 mm x 220.6 mm x 6.9 mm. To be upfront, such aspects can be compared to an A4 sized sheet with about a centimetre exceeding on both the sides. But it is not as light as a sheet paper. As far as the Wi-Fi variant is concerned, it weighs around 747 g while the cellular one weighs 723 g. The bezels are mostly unchanged in comparison to the Air 2, but the display is obviously larger than that of Air 2.
The front camera is placed above the retina display, right at the centre and the TouchID home key is at the bottom. On the back, we have the same old brushed metal finish, along with a Silver colour option. The primary camera is also where it has always been, on the top left. It has a mic beside it. The volume rocker is at a higher position on the right side, which also has a mic hole beside it. The three pin connector is positioned at the centre of the left side for the Smart keyboard dock. On the top, we have the power key at far right, and a 3.5 mm audio jack makes its presence on the left. The screen is a 12.9 inch Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 2732 pixels and has a pixel density of 264 ppi.
It is equipped with the all new A9X processor. It runs on a dual-core 2.26 GHz Twister CPU. The GPU used is PowerVR Series (12 core graphics). As usual, this iPad also comes in different models according to the capacity if internal space. All the three models with an internal memory of 32 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB, have the same 4 GB of RAM. iPad Pro comes with iOS 9 operating system and is upgradable to iOS 10.1.
On the back, the Apple iPad Pro has an 8-megapixel camera, which is capable of producing images of 3264 x 2448 pixels and can record videos at 1080p at 30 fps. Also, the front facing 1.2-megapixel camera can record videos at 720p at 30 fps. Both the cameras have face detection, HDR and the picture quality is pretty good, even under low lighting conditions. There is no LED flash on the back to support the primary camera. The camera app has several features like Geo -tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR and panorama. Overall, the camera app seems good and the picture quality has turned to be good for an 8-megapixel camera.
The battery used in this tablet is a non-removable Li-Ion 10307 mAh battery (38.8 Wh). The connectivity options include: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, hotspot; Bluetooth v4.0, A2DP; GPS, with A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC and USB v3.0 (reversible, magnetic connector).
