In 2014, Apple expanded their iPhone line, simultaneously introducing the next generation of its flagship model: the all new iPhone 6. iPhone 6S was also launched with it, which is it’s super sized sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus. IPhone 6 has 4.7-inch Apple smartphone, which marks the company’s entry in the big screen sector. Here, some would say that the tech giant was catching up with the industry’s trend, rather than innovating. We agree to it to a certain extent. However, not every company can do what Apple can. That being said, let us give you a descriptive walkthrough of the device, and what it is capable of doing.
The iPhone 6 is available in three different memory variants – 16/64/128GB. The device marks the beginning of the new era of the phones, and now even has two successors – the IPhone 6S and 6 Plus. Armed with a bigger screen and a better camera, not to forget the new iOS it runs on; the IPhone 6 is easily a competition for the other high-end devices in the market. The iPhone 6 is an exceptional phone in nearly every way but for its middling battery life. Apple iPhone 6 Plus is also impressive. It is larger and thinner than every other iPhone models, and it has the capacity for far more endurance on a single charge than most of the similarly sized and smaller competitors. Although, while choosing between the 6 and 6 Plus models, it comes down to the matter of personal preference. Many people loved the iPhone 6 Plus, due to its larger screen size and better battery life. But, personally, iPhone 6 did felt better in my hand. It’s much thinner, elegant and the performance is really well. Also, it is considerably less expensive than the 6 Plus. In my opinion, the smaller iPhone 6 is the way to go for most people.
To begin with, the phone looks like a premium device. The design has largely changed, and you start noticing the difference as soon as you see the absence of the sharp angles and flat edges. The phone itself feels slick and smooth, but because the glass has been raised to have it integrated with the metal in a seamless curve, it makes it look fragile. The phone is comfortable to hold and is perfectly slim enough to be held easily. In fact, the weight and the balance are so much in sync; we wondered why it took Apple so much time to make this. But, it has that aura of fragility. Maybe because of its extra slim look, or could be the massive pane of curved glass on the front. Also, not to forget, earlier after a few week of this iPhone hitting the market, there were many reports of iPhone 6 bending. Consumer report’s testing found out that the new iPhones were able to withstand less pressure than the iPhone 5, but are about as equally durable as the HTC One M8. It’s actually not that delicate, but like every other smartphone, it is prone to damage and needs to be handled with care.
The display is probably what distinguishes it most from the other Apple phones. In addition to the screen size, the phone offers a larger resolution (1344 x 750 pixels), and a picture density of 326 ppi. The IPhone 6 offers amazing brightness, color reproduction and contrast, giving more dynamism and depth to the images viewed on screen. If you’re the technical type, you will be happy to know that the screen reached a maximum brightness of 585 cd/m2, and the contrast ratio was recorded at 1423:1.
In addition to the specs highlighted above, the phone contains the M8 coprocessor, and a sensor for measuring atmospheric pressure as well as altitude. While the 1GB RAM might look minimal when compared to those being offered on Android phones, the IPhone 6 operated amazingly smooth, on iOS8. The tests runs gave impressive results, easily placing the phone in the ranks of Samsung Galaxy S5. Now, considering the IPhone 6 has simply half the number of cores as compared to Samsung’s offering, the test results seem overall more interesting. Switching in between open numerous apps, graphic-extensive web pages and even zooming in/out of Google Maps at the same time produced no lag at all.
While other global smartphone manufacturers continue to bring up camera units with the maximum number of megapixels, Apple seems to be pretty content with the unit it used on 5S. The rear camera sports an 8MP camera and the usual features seen in the previous version – f/2.2 aperture and dual-LED flash. However, here’s the main difference – the phone comes empowered with several phase-detect autofocus pixels (PDAF) for faster autofocus locking, and it does the job very well. Matter of fact, this technology is already used in expensive DSLR cameras and even in Galaxy S5, and this adds another bonus point to the 6’s side.
The FaceTime camera has also been slightly optimized. Although there is no change in the unit’s resolution (it sports the same 1.2MP camera as before), the secondary camera does feature a wider focus, allowing more light to go in. As a result, the pictures taken are more detail-oriented, and way cleaner.
The iPhone 6 uses an 1810 mAh battery, which is not very impressive in the current situation. The 6 Plus sports a bigger part, and it has been revealed that it lasted for a few more hours than a day. The IPhone 6, on the other hand, lasted a day with some regular activities like syncing emails, calls, E-book reading, web surfing, video and music playback. The phone also makes a benchmark in the number of bands supported. The IPhone 6 is available in two variants – one which supports 16 bands, while the other with support for 20 band frequencies, the maximum any phone yet made carries.
The phone has a host of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, A2DP and LE. Also, and as announced by Apple, it also supports NFC. Although support for this is only limited to Apply Pay as of now, there are infinite possibilities that the device maker could utilize in the future, from accessing reserved hotel rooms to checking-in on Foursquare.
Just like every other smartphone ever launched, this one is not perfect as well. Every smartphone has its positives and negatives. The iPhone 6 is surely an upgrade over its last year’s predecessor iPhone 5S, with much more space of 128 GB at the top end, and a bigger and better 4.7 inch screen. It has improved wireless speed, and the camera gives awesome pictures with autofocus. The all new iOS versions remains a top smartphones operating system, just like its previous iOS. Not to forget, the Apple Pay is a very much secure payment system. But, as I said, it does have its negatives as well. The battery life is not much of an upgrade and its performance is quite similar to that of last year’s iPhone 5S.WHAT WE LIKED
Apple has always been able to throw their customers off their feet by introducing some amazing iPhone’s. This one’s an exceptional phone too in every way. Except the battery life; iPhone 6 is thin, fast and full of some excellent features. The iOS operating system was better than ever during the launch, and still after some updates and upgrades, it is known to be the best one.
