The year 2014 marked the launch of the big screen iPhone, offering Apple fans a device which could compete with the Android devices in terms of display size. No doubt the iPhone price are always higher than Android smartphones, but still, users are crazy about the Apple smartphone brand. Apple had finally released a smartphone to compete with the living standard of the cellular industry. The iPhone 6S Plus was launched in 2015. If you are familiar with the way Apple launched its devices, then you may already know that “S” models released every alternate year do not bring a fresh design with new specifications, but are significant upgrades to the one released the last year.
The Apple is still constant with its higher price range. Following the trend, when the Cupertino-based company launched the 6S Plus in 2015, not much was expected of it. However, the device is one of the best-selling phones in the past year and has brought Apple very much back in the race. Armed with a sensitive fingerprint sensor, an excellent camera and an innovative way of interacting with the phone, the iPhone 6S Plus could be just the device you were looking too!
The iPhone 6S Plus resembles its predecessor in almost every way. Except for a small S logo on the lower part of the rear panel, the iPhone 6S, and the 6S Plus look just identical. The ‘bendy’ body has been taken care of, and the new phone ships with a stronger, sturdier metallic body. The 6S Plus has gained 0.2mm in thickness, and a whopping 20g in weight when compared to the 6S.
The phone offers the premium look and feel one would expect from Apple devices, and the company’s firmness on keeping the large-sized bezels make the phone all the more substantial. Having a firm grip on the phone might be slightly difficult, given the fact the model has round metallic edges and a flat rear. However, this can be solved by using the silicon case. Furthermore, the size of the bezels also makes the icons at the top inaccessible, but this tapping can overcome on the home button twice. It brings the icons in the upper half of the screen to the lower, thus enhancing accessibility. Although the size of the phone is quite an issue, because many people don’t like big phones. There are a fair amount of people who like the phones which can fit in their hand, just like myself. The size of iPhone 6S Plus is truly not so comfortable.
As for the button placements, the lock/power button are on the right, and the left side houses the mute as well as the volume keys. In addition to the three colors (silver, gold and gray) the previous iPhones were already available in, the 6S Plus comes in Rose Pink too.
6S Plus’s display is almost identical to its predecessor, again. From the outside, the phone features the same IPS LCD panel, 5.5 inches in size. The display is 5.5 inches, with 1920 x 1080 resolution and supports a full HD screen, with an impressive pixel density of 401ppi. It is relatively better than the 6S, which offered only 326ppi. Needless to say, images and text are crispy clear on the 6S Plus’s screen, and if you put the display brightness to the maximum level, the images are vibrant and colors come out brightly. Also, it matters mostly for photos, videos and web browsing.
The iPhone 6S Plus comes with an A9 dual-core chip and 2GB RAM for executing your responses faster. Now, more RAM does not necessarily make your phone exceptionally faster, but it certainly guarantees that it can handle larger tasks in a better, smoother way. More applications can be cached into memory, thus making multitasking easier. As per our tests, there was no lag whatsoever when switching from one game to the other, or even when switching back and forth between multiple open applications.
For enhanced security, the 6S Plus comes with an inbuilt fingerprint sensor. Not only does this add to the security, but also integrated with Apple Pay. The improved processor allows the sensor to recognize inputs in half the time as before. 3D Touch, another feature that makes interacting with the device a pleasure.
While Apple has always seemed satisfied with the 8MP lens featured, the 6S Plus comes with a 12MP camera unit, that apparently means the device has faster shutter speed, images clarity is unquestionable, and the overall camera experience has considerably improved. This camera is one of the things of iPhone 6S Plus; that attracts you towards this smartphone. Let me tell you why: while taking normal photos in the dark, you might not see the difference between the pictures clicked from iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, but if you maximize the zoom and then click, you will notice the difference. The pictures taken from iPhone 6S Plus are more blur-free images. The FaceTime camera also employs a 5MP unit in contrast to the 1.2MP featured previously, with improved support for video calling and photography. Apple also included optical image stabilization for video this year, and that might matter even more.
While some may argue that the minimum number of options available in Apple’s camera app are disappointing when you consider the ones available on Android, it certainly is not so. The difference lies in the approach. While users are encouraged to fiddle with the settings in an Android device, Apple takes much of the process in its hand to give you a simpler and easier way to handling multimedia.
Apple is known not reveal battery specifications, and nothing changes for this model as well. However, there are reports that the 6S Plus’s battery is slightly smaller than the 6S’s. The latter used a 2750mAh battery, and in practical scenarios, could easily last a day of moderate use. It also seems to be the case with the 6S Plus.
A video loop test (that ran for 90 minutes) consumed 22% of the battery. Calls, social media, emails and text messages put no strain on the battery at all, even for a prolonged period. However, graphic intensive applications seemed to exert some pressure. In all, once fully charged, you can expect the phone to give you a full day’s backup. Towards the end of the day, you will definitely need to consider power saving or recharging.
Like every other iPhone being launched every year, this one also had its fair share of pros and cons. There are a few new features which are quite impressive, but still, Apple can give you a few negatives in the iPhone 6S Plus. Of course, the improved speed is what everyone thinks will be brought in the new iPhone, and it is. The camera are also better, which was expected. A slightly better battery life is what we should be thankful of, because the battery performance has been the biggest problem of iPhones in the past few years. iPhone 6S Plus has a bigger and higher resolution screen, and it also have optical image stabilization for photos and videos, which makes a difference. But, being full of feature, along with a big size, there are a few negatives as well. The size, which is quite big, makes it a little uncomfortable to operate. Although the battery is improved, it is still not good enough. Other similar sized phablets offer longer battery life than the iPhone 6S Plus does. This is something Apple must take care of with the iPhone 7.WHAT WE LIKED
The iPhone 6S Plus offers quite a few advantages which provide it an edge for the iPhone lovers. Although the big body is quite an issues, because it may not fit for a lot of people, it still is Apple’s greatest phone after the upcoming iPhone 7, which is just around the corner. The Apple iPhone 7 is possibly quite costly, and could out of reach from many iPhone lovers, and for them, iPhone 6S Plus is an awesome choice. It is supposed to get a good amount of price slash, along with the better and increased storage capacity as well, after the iPhone 7 hits the market. So, yeah, iPhone 6S Plus is you should go for if you are an iPhone freak.
