Asus has been manufacturing smartphones for quite some time now. Few of their smartphones have done well in the markets too. They seem to offer more of a budget segment of smartphones. Asus launched its “Asus Zenfone Go” smartphone in August 2015. The smartphone comes with an affordable price tag and offers a decent Android experience. So, let’s see how this smartphone turns out to be in real life.
The Asus Zenfone Go offers a decent design and looks well. The phone boasts a decent build quality and captures the user’s attention. For user searching for unique design, this phone is not for them, as this phone has a pretty basic design. The volume rocker and the power buttons are provided on the right edge of the phone, while the 3.5mm earphone jack is provided on the top of the phone. Three soft-touch capacitive buttons are also provided in the phone, which is not backlit. The external dimensions of this phone are 5.69 x 2.80 x 0.39 inches and weighs 135 grammes, which again is fantastic. The Asus Zenfone Go is available in three colour variant i.e. Black, White and Red. The display of the phone features a 5.0 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that shall provide a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and roughly translates to 294 pixels-per-inch pixel density. When we viewed the display up close, we did not find any pixelation, which is impressive. The display is decent enough to provide its users with an incredible viewing experience. The viewing angles appear to be decent and so is the sunlight legibility. However, we do believe that the screen’s brightness could have been better. Overall, the design and display of the phone at its price tag are decent.
The phone is powered by a Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor which is be backed by a Mediatek MT6580 chipset. The processor provided in the phone is decent enough to make sure that the general functions are done by the phone seamlessly. The Mali-400MP2 GPU makes sure that light games and videos are played easily on the phone, however, one can observe frame drops when big games are played on the phone. Overall, we believe that the processor could have been better, however, at the current price tag one cannot complain much. The smartphone comes in two models i.e. 8GB/16 GB with 2GB RAM. The internal memory could be expanded up to 64GB using the microSD card slot provided in the phone. The problem with the 8GB model is that it has very little space for other applications to be installed on the phone, so it’s advisable to go for 16GB model. The phone runs on Android platform and works on Android OS, version 5.1 i.e. Lollipop. The phone does not support 4G/LTE networks, however, allows dual SIM compatibility.
The phone feature an 8MP, f/2.0 primary camera that is supported by LED flashlight. The front camera comes with 2 MP camera. HD Video recording can be done by the camera at frames like 1080p@30fps. The images captured by the camera are decent at the most. The images captured by the phone lack detail and appear to be washed out of colours. The low light performance is mediocre, and lots of noise seems to creep in the photograph. The front camera can be used for video calling, as the images captured by it are mediocre to say the most. The smartphone features a loudspeaker that can get fairly loud enough. A 3.5mm audio jack is also provided in the phone.
The battery provided in the smartphone is a 2070 mAh non-removable Li-Po battery. In day to day life, the battery was able to run for a complete day with heavy usage. The smartphone is backed with basic functions, such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth Version 4.0, A2DP, A-GPS, FM radio and microUSB v2.0. Talking about the sensors provided in the phone, the phone features with accelerometer, proximity and compass.
