Asus has been silently producing some amazing smartphones. Smartphone users complain about the non-availability of their phones all round the world. They seem to be cautious in launching their smartphones in certain markets. They recently launched their Asus Pegasus 3s smartphone. The phone was launched to attract mid-segment smartphone users. The phone offers a decent value for money and offers a wide range of connectivity options too.
The phone boasts a decent look and looks fairly aesthetic. The phone’s volume rocker power button have been provided on the right edge of the phone and the speaker grille has been provided on the lower part of the back panel. The camera has been provided on top center of the back panel and just below it, is provided the fingerprint scanner. The “Asus” branding has been provided on the front of the phone just below the display. The phone is available in four color variants i.e. Gold, silver, gray and rose gold. The phone comes with a 5.2-inches HD IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen that would provide screen resolution of 720 x 1080 pixels and roughly corresponds to 282 ppi rich screen. The display is not protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Protection. The display does its job well and captures its user’s attention. The phone offers decent sunlight legibility and viewing angles. However, we hoped to see a better display in the phone considering the phones from the Zenfone 3 series had all very good legibility. Overall, the phone has impressive design with a decent display.
The phone features an Octa-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processor that is backed by a Mediatek MT6750 processor, which is again clocked at slower speeds than other phones launched by Asus recently. The phone is also backed by 3GB of RAM, which seems to be enough for providing a lag free experience. The processor, although clocked slower, can still easily play various kinds of games and apps and compensates for relatively slower clock speeds. Asus seems to have done a good job here as we did not notice any lags or stutters during our testing. The Mali-T860MP2 GPU is in charge of graphic performance of the phone and does a decent job. For general purposes the processor seems to work seamlessly. The phone runs on Android 7.0 i.e. Nougat with the help of Asus ZenUI 3.1. The phone comes in two different variants i.e. 32GB/64GB, which again can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. The phone supports 4G/LTE networks and allows dual-SIMs.
Asus seems to provide decent cameras, to say the least in its smartphones and their cameras work beautifully too. The phone features a 13MP PDAF camera w/ dual-LED (dual-tone) flash. Also, an 8MP front camera has also been provided in the phone. The primary camera supports a wide range of shooting modes such as time lapse, depth of field, panorama, burst mode apart from basic functions like touch-to-focus and offers shooting modes such as Continuous Shooting, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR). The camera setting would also include Exposure compensation and ISO control. Full HD Video recording is also done by the camera at 1080p@30fps. The primary camera features a 1/3" sensor and has 1.12 µm pixel size. The images captured by the rear camera are decent, as the camera is able to capture considerable amount of details. The picture quality may sometimes go down a little when the images are captured in dim light conditions. The front camera on the other hand is able to take decent selfies. Also video calling was very good for the camera. The phone features a loudspeaker which gets sufficiently loud for a small room and also comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Talking about the battery provided in the phone, the phone comes with a huge Li-Ion 5000 mAh battery. The battery provided in the phone is non user-removable and supports fast charging. We were impressed by the overall performance of the battery, as in real life conditions, the battery was able to run for two days even with moderate to heavy usage. Talking about the connectivity options, the phone offers connectivity options, such as, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0, A2DP, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, FM radio and microUSB v2.0. The phone features with four kinds of sensors i.e. Fingerprint, Accelerometer, proximity and compass.
