There was once a time when Blackberry was one of the elite smartphone manufacturers, and now the company is taking its last breath in the smartphone sector. After trying a lot to revive its smartphones, Blackberry, has finally decided to stop producing their smartphones after releasing one last smartphone for their remaining fans. John Chen, BlackBerry’s CEO confirmed recently that they are working one last in-house smartphone that would feature with a QWERTY keyboard. According to many reports online, the last phone that is being worked upon BlackBerry has been codenamed “Mercury.” Recently, there has been a lot of leaks regarding the images and specs of the phone. So, let's see how this smartphone might turn out to be in real life.
Recently, images have been leaked of the upcoming BlackBerry Mercury on Weibo. The pictures show the similarity between the next phone and the previously launched BlackBerry Priv. The one thing that stood out in the images was the keyboard. As the keyboard seems to be now fixed just below the display, instead of sliding out of sight. The phone seems to be having capacitive navigation buttons, instead of on screen buttons that were present in BlackBerry Priv. It is also tipped that the upcoming phone shall have the fingerprint scanner integrated right into the space bar. It is believed that the BlackBerry will unveil its upcoming phone sometime in December and shall start shipping its phone sometime in the year 2017. The phone is expected to feature with a 4.5-inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that would provide a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The display might also be protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass, thus making the phone resistant to scratches. The HD display would make sure to provide decent viewing angles and amazing sunlight legibility too. Overall, the phone shall offer one last parting gift to its loyalists.
If we go according to the online reports, the phone shall feature a 2.0GHz processor that would be backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. Currently, we have no information regarding the exact GPU that shall be used on the phone. The rumoured 2.0GHz processor shall be powerful enough to provide a decent BlackBerry experience. It is also believed that a32GB of internal storage would be provided in the phone and the memory could be expanded by its users using the microSD card slot that shall be provided in the phone. It is also believed that the phone would be backed by a 3GB of RAM, which would be sufficient for almost all kinds of functions. The phone shall allow dual SIM compatibility and would support 4G/LTE networks. The phone shall offer extreme data protection which remains common for all BlackBerry phones and shall offer a range of BlackBerry services.
According to the online reports, the phone shall feature with an 18-megapixel rear camera that would be backed by LED flashlight and auto focus. The front shooter is expected to feature an 8-megapixel camera. The various shooting modes shall include Continuous Shooting and High Dynamic Range mode (HDR). The Camera Features shall include Gesture Shot, Voice Capture, Face Beauty, Smile detection, Face Detection, Self-timer, Touch focus, GIF Creator, Snapshot Mode. The camera could also do HD video recording. BlackBerry has been doing very well in the camera section, and we hope that the camera provided in this phone shall work great too. With this phone, we expect to capture some highly detailed images even in dim lighting conditions too. The phone would feature with a loudspeaker and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Currently, we have information regarding the battery specifications. However, we expect that the battery would let the phone work for a complete day with heavy usage. The battery is also expected to support fast charging. The connectivity options shall include 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.1, A-GPS, FM Radio and microUSB 2.0.
