BlackBerry Limited is a multinational company that was established many years ago and it had been a good competitor in the smartphone market as well as in many other electronics product’s category. Initially marketing their own Operating System, Blackberry has now switched over to Android. Their new model Blackberry Motion has been announced as of October 2017 and released in November 2017. This new model comprises of many new and advanced features that will attract the interests of many customers of all age groups. This new model is a high priced model, as Blackberry's signature and customers will have to dig deep into their pockets for buying this new smartphone.
The Blackberry Motion has a 5.5 inches Full IPS LCD display. The dimensions for this device is 155.7 x 75.4 x 8.1 mm and it weighs around 165 grams. The phone isn't too heavy and carrying the phone around wouldn't be any problem. The front panel houses the front camera, the display panel and the balckberry logo below the screen, where the fingerprint sensor is embedded. The black panel looks elegant with different texture at the camera module and the rest of the back panel. Volume control buttons can be found on the right edge of the phone. Not following the Apple and Google trend, the Blackberry Motion will have a 3.5 mm jack as a part of its design.
The screen resolution is about 1080x1920 pixels and the pixel density is about 401 pixels per inch with color reproduction of about 16M colors. With such a good display, sunlight legibility should pose no problems. The screen to body percentage ratio is about 71%, which is a little behind the trend, but the looks of phone should compensate for it. The screen will have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and will support 10-point multi-touch which is pretty much the norm today.
The tried and tested Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 chipset will power the phone's performance. With an octa-core Cortex A53 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz, the performance will be balanced between battery efficiency and fluidity. The snapdragon 625 comes coupled with the Adreno 506 GPU. Again, this is a tried and tested chipset, so Blackberry Motion doesn't pose any performance issues, apart from the occasional slow down for battery preservation. No adverse effects on performance.
The operating system of this device is Android’s v7.1 Nougat. The phone will later on get updates to Android v8.0 Oreo. The internal memory of this device will include 32GB internal memory along with a slot for a 256GB microSD card. It will also possess a RAM of 4GB. This much RAM is highly effective for multitasking and the performance of the phone should be fluid throughout.
Cameras is something that hasn't been the fortay of Blackberry. Though the quality is always good, but they're never the best. The Blackberry Motion's 12MP, f/2.0 PDAF Camera is fairly decent, but sub-par. This is a technology that was top-notch three years ago. But we cannot complain, as Blackberry isn't targettting photography lovers here. For busy people like high officials, the specifications are good enough. The rear camera will not be completely devoid of features though. With a dual-tone LED flash, geo-tagging, panorama, HDR etc, the phone will get the job done.
The front camera seems to be fairly good enough at 8MP. Not focussed on the selfie crazy youngsters, the front camera of the Blackerry Motion is good enough for high quality video calling on the go.
The video quality features for the primary as well as the secondary camera is very good though and has clear audio and sharp frame capture. Videos can be recorded in 1080p @30fps. The video quality for the front camera is also very good, as it is optimised for video calling.
The multimedia features for this device include a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers and it supports different types of alert modes like WAV, Vibration and MP3 files. For audio player, it supports MP3 files and for video player it supports MP4 and MPEG4 files.
Blackberry takes the user experience very seriously. And a person using the phone will surely not be seen sitting around the charging plug all the time. So, Blackberry has put up a 4000 mAh battery, that will keep the phone running for hours, despite heavy usage. Going with the trend, the battery is non-removable Li-ion type with support for fast charging, thanks to the snapdragon 625.
It supports 2G EDGE/GPRS, 3G HSPA+/UMTS and 4G LTE networks with full 4G VoLTE for rich and high definition calling. For 3G bands it will have HSDPA 850/ 900/ 1900/ 2100 MHz and 4G LTE bands. The communication features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi direct with hotspot, dual-band, Bluetooth v4.2, A-GPS with GLONASS, proximity sensor, gyroscope, compass and it supports HTML for browser. It does not have NFC payment option neither the JAVA has been included in it. For wired connectivity Blackberry has put up the USB-C jack for high speed data transfer between the phone and the PC.
The Blackberry Motion is expected to be very expensive and will be in the high range for customers to buy it. Let us go through the advantages and disadvantages of this device before customers think about buying this model.WHAT WE LIKED
