Very recently, Gionee launched their new phone, Gionee S6 Pro in China. It is the latest smartphone from Gionee in their ‘S’ series. There are speculations that this phone is going to be the successor of Gionee’s Elife S6 smartphone. In comparison to Elfie S6, the S6 Pro has some major improvements in it. You get a full HD display, along with more RAM and expandable storage. Gionee S6 Pro also features a fingerprint scanner. The S6 Pro has the Gionee’s new logo on the back, and it runs on the all new powerful MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor. And to back it up, there is 4GB of RAM. Gionee has not compromised with the internal memory either. The S6 Pro has 64GB of internal storage, and if that much memory still falls short for your data, then you can even expand it to 128GB using a microSD card. It is a huge phone with 5.5" screen, which is protected by 2.5D curved glass. The phone runs on Gionee’s latest UI, Amigo OS 3.2, which is based on Android Marshmallow 6.0. The phone also features the latest USB Type-C port. Let us look at it in depth and find out what this newest phone from Gionee has to offer.
The Gionee S6 Pro has a full metal body, which measures 153 x 75.26 x 7.6 mm and weighs 170 gm. The phone has that premium looking body, which looks very classy. The phone is designed in such a way that it feels good in the hands and is not at all slippery. To be upright, this is something contradictory to what we had expected. There are no sharp corners around the edges. On the back, there is the 13MP camera on the top, which is positioned at the center. It also has LED flash beside it. Just below the camera, there is the Gionee’s new logo. On the left-hand side, there is the metal volume rocker and just below it, there is the power key which also made of metal. On the front, below the 5.5” HD display, there is the menu key, which also has a fingerprint scanner embedded. According to Gionee, the fingerprint scanner can unlock the smartphone in just 0.1 seconds. The USB Type-C port provided at the bottom, and on the either side of it, there are two speaker grilles. The Gionee S6 Pro smartphone comes with a 5.5” widescreen where the screen uses AMOLED capacitive touchscreen panel with the depth of 16 million colours. The screen carries a resolution of Full HD 1080 x 1920 pixels, with a pixel density of 401 ppi pixel. So the images and graphics will appear very bright and sharp on this screen. Unfortunately, we don’t have any information whether the screen has been coated with a protective glass or not, but if you see the price of Gionee S6 Pro and the display that brings quality, most likely, it is already coated.
The Gionee S6 Pro comes with an Octa-Core processor which is divided into two cores of Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 and quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53. It is equipped with MediaTek Helio MT6755M P10 (64 bit) chipset and the GPU used is Mali T860. All this is backed by 4GB of RAM. The processor used in S6 Pro is capable of producing a very remarkable performance, and sufficient RAM. It means that you shall be able to do multitasking smoothly on this phone. The performance of this smartphone will be much better because it runs on Android OS v6.0 or marshmallow, which is tweaked by Amigo OS 3.2.
Gionee S6 Pro has awesome camera capabilities as well. It has a 13MP primary camera with aperture f / 2.0 lens. The camera also features autofocus. It has an LED flash beside to click photos and shoot videos in low lightings. The camera app also looks good. It has several features like Geo -tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR. The rear camera is also capable of recording video with Full HD 1080p resolution @ 30fps. And for those who like to take selfies, there is a front camera with 8MP lens. Both the cameras offer superior quality images. We cannot say much about it, till its release.
There are a fingerprint scanner, a 5.5" big screen, and several other features. All this couldn't power by a small battery. Gionee has used a 3130 mAh battery in S6 Pro, which is non-removable. The battery seems enough for all the hardware to work. It must be noted that the consumption of battery depends on the processor as well. The processor is new and is energy efficient, so hopefully, this should be a good battery size for Gionee S6 Pro. But still, we cannot say anything for sure before we get our hands on S6 Pro. Also, the battery is not equipped for faster charging (or super-turbo charging). For such a premium looking phone, it should have had fast charging support. The Gionee S6 Pro features dual SIM, and the phone supports 4G networks. The second SIM card slot is a hybrid one, so you can either use a microSD card or another SIM card. Other connectivity options are: WiFi b/g/nac, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.1, A2DP, GPS with A-GPS, FM Radio and a fingerprint scanner for security. The phone also features the latest USB Type-C port.
The phone hit the markets in China a few weeks ago. We cannot, therefore, say much about its cons. But from the looks of specs, it has lots of Pros.WHAT WE LIKED
