HTC has been trying to capture the budget segment of the smartphone market for quite some time now. In their quest for creating the successful affordable smartphones, they have launched a series of such gadgets in the market. While many of them failed to garner much attention, few of them did exceptionally well. Adding to the budget segment of the smartphone, HTC is planning to launch its “HTC Desire 540” smartphone in the coming future. So, let’s see how this smartphone might turn out to be in real life and if it offers anything unique to its users.
HTC seems to be very comfortable with its signature design and so incorporates the same design in most of its budget segment smartphones. If we go with the leaked images online, this phone too shares the same design that is used in other budget segment smartphone of HTC. The phone seems to have a plastic body and the signature HTC design. The speaker grilles are provided at the top and bottom part of the front panel of the phone. The volume rocker, as well as the power button, seem to be provided on the right edge of the phone. The external dimensions of the phone are expected to be 142.9 mm x 74.5 mm x 7.68 mm and the phone is expected to weigh around 160 grammes. Regarding the colour variants of the phone, it shall come in two colours variant i.e. Black and Gold. About the display of this phone, the HTC Desire 540 shall feature with a 5.0-inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that shall provide a screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The IPS display shall have approximately 294 pixels-per-inch pixel density. The phone shall have a decent display and shall be lively enough to capture user’s attention. However, we do hope the display gets bright enough to provide a decent sunlight legibility, which has been an issue with many of the budget segment HTC smartphone.
The phone is supposedly powered by a Quad-core processor which shall work decently for general functions. We are not sure if the phone shall be able to deliver a power packed performance. The phone shall feature with a 1GB of RAM which is far less than what other smartphone offers at the same price tag. With the rumoured processor and the RAM, the general performance of the phone shall remain smooth; however, things might go a little fuzzy when the phone’s ROM memory is encumbered with several heavy apps. The smartphone offers 8GB of internal memory, which could be expanded up to 128GB using the microSD card slot provided in the phone. The phone runs on Android OS, version 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) with the support of with HTC Sense, HTC BlinkFeed and HTC Apps. The phone shall offer single-SIM functionality (to be confirmed) and might support 4G/LTE networks.
We currently have no information regarding the camera specifications that would be used on the phone. However, we think that like many other budget segment smartphone, this phone too shall feature a 5MP rear camera that shall support by a LED flashlight and a front 2MP front camera. The images captured by the budget segment HTC smartphones have always been average, and one can expect an average performance from this smartphone too. About multimedia, the phone shall feature with a stereo loudspeaker and a 3.5mm audio jack. The phone shall also provide support for MP4/XviD /H.265 player, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/Flac player, Photo/video editor and a Document viewer.
Talking about the battery, the phone is rumoured to have a 3000 mAh Li-polymer battery. We currently have no information that if the battery shall be user replaceable and if it supports fast charming. However, for a budget segment smartphone, the battery seems impressive and shall easily work for a day with heavy usage. The smartphone shall provide connectivity functions, such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.1 with A2DP, A-GPS, FM Radio and microUSB version 2.0. The phone shall feature sensors like accelerometer.
