Premium phones by Samsung, Moto, OnePlus and other manufacturers are released every year, but none can be compared to the features and the popularity of the two heavyweights in the premium smartphone category. The iPhone and the Nexus are known for their amazing designs, lightning fast chipsets and also for introducing completely new features that other manufacturers adopt. We saw the release of the iPhone 7 this year, and now, two new Nexus phones are going to be released by the end of this year. In this review, we take a look at the phone, codenamed Sailfish, which is being manufactured by HTC. HTC hasn’t made a Nexus phone since the first Nexus 1, and both HTC and Nexus fans can’t wait to get their hands on this phone. In this review, we take a look at some of the features that have been leaked about the phone.
Recently leaked pictures of the Nexus Sailfish shows the front and back of the phone along with a slightly tilted view. All this reveals that HTC is maintaining the candy bar shaped look that we are used to seeing. In the leaked images, the back of the phone seems to be covered by a glass panel. This is great news as it improves the feel of the phone, but it can turn out to be a fingerprint magnet. Another leaked build file suggests that the phone will have a fingerprint sensor on the back. However, other rumors say that the sensor will be on the front similar to that of the HTC 10.
The display itself will be a 5.2 inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920x1080, which is a good resolution for a screen of that size. It will also be easier on the battery of the phone, which we will discuss later. HTC has decided not to go with a Quad HD display and has instead chosen a 1080p screen with a pixel density of 420-ppi.
The Sailfish will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor which is slightly better than the overclocked 821 processor and is gentler on the battery. That will be accompanied by a 4 GB RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU. All these specs makes it perfect to be a 2016 premium smartphone. Internal storage will be a nice 32 GB, it has still not been released whether the phone memory can be increased through a card slot or not. Rumors suggest that the HTC Nexus Sailfish should run on the latest Android Nougat. The leaked Build.prop file has no further information about the phone other than this. The sailfish is the smaller of the two Nexus devices that will be launched and more information about it can be got if a ROM dump file is released.
The Nexus will have a 12 MP primary shooter. The front camera will have a resolution of 8 MP. This 12/8 MP camera spec has been the most popular in 2016, and it makes sense for HTC to make their Nexus with these features. The primary camera will be able to record videos at 4K resolution at 30 fps. The front camera can record videos on HD format. Not much has been released about the cameras as Nexus phone aren’t as popular for their camera’s as they are for their performance and display.
Other features include a proximity sensor, barometer, pedometer, fingerprint and gyroscope, all standards for a premium phone.
In the build files that have been released says nothing about the battery capacity or if it will have fast charging features or not. We expect that the battery will be in accordance to the previous Nexus phones. That would mean that it will have a 2700 mAh battery, which is fine for small phones like the Sailfish. It also makes sense for them to have such a battery given that HTC has chosen the more power efficient 820 processor. Fast charging is also a possibility as the Nexus 5X also had the same feature. Other connectivity options include an NFC, Bluetooth, WI-Fi, and GPS.
