HTC is on a roll releasing new mobile phones almost every month. Keeping up with them, here is their latest launch, the HTC One M9e. Yes, it will different from the M9 in that the m9e is a crossover between the M9 and the A9. Despite the crossover, you don’t get the new design of the A9 nor its 3 GB RAM or camera or its chipset or anything else. In short, the M9e may be a paired down version of the M9 with the A9’s camera.
The M9e has been going through an identity crisis before launch only. Because it seems like the phone has taken elements from One M9 and One M9+ smartphone. However, if you look closely, some subtle differences do stand out. As expected , the M9e has a plastic and metal construction. The plastic back panel is of good quality, but it catches fingerprints easily. The metal rim around the phone gives the phone a solid feel and gives it a premium look. The phone expected to have a curved back casing to give you a good grip and make it feel comfortable to hold. The volume rocker, power button, and microSD slot may be on the right side of the phone whereas the two micro SIM card slots are on the left. The front of the phone expected to have a 5-inch screen with HTC’s characteristic dual stereo speakers above and below the screen. The back of the phone has the camera with an LED flash. The camera protrudes out a little and has a metallic ring surrounding it. The fingerprint scanner on the phone is easy to access even when using the phone with one hand.
HTC has the best display that any smartphone offers at the moment. It has a 5-inch IPS 4K or QHD screen with a resolution of 1440x2560p which translates to a pixel density of 565 ppi. The pixel density is second only to Samsung Galaxy S6’s pixel density of 577 ppi. Watching videos and playing games on the One M9e is a treat, and the display is gorgeous. Colors are punchy and not oversaturated, and contrast is amazing as well. The phone also has good viewing angles, and it is bright enough to use under direct sunlight.
The One M9e has an Octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processor clocked at a speed of 2.2 GHz. The phone has a 3GB RAM and a PowerVR graphics unit. The phone breezes through multitasking and can handle many apps open at the same time. Gaming on the phone is excellent with the phone handling graphics intensive and processor heavy games like Asphalt 8 and some other 3D games with ease. If you are looking for a phone that is bound to deliver on performance, look no further than this one. The M9e comes with 32GB of internal memory which could explain to 256 GB through a dedicated micro SD slot.
The phone runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the company’s proprietary Sense UI. Sense UI is filled with a lot of customization options, pre-loaded apps, animations and news update. The phone comes installed with HTC’s fitness app which is great for tracking steps taken, calories burnt, etc. As there are no hardware buttons, you get onscreen buttons. These take up some space on the screen and have a tendency to move away when needed the most, which is why many prefer touch buttons. Overall, however, the software is clean and easy to use.
With the M9e, you get a 13 MP primary camera with dual tone LED flash. The camera delivers excellent photos with great colors and lots of details. The app manages to reduce a lot of noise, especially during low light photography. However, there was a slight problem with the images being a little too much over saturated. The camera has features like autofocus, geo-tagging, and HDR, panorama and face and smile detection. Videos taken by the camera come at 2160p at 30fps. The secondary camera is a 5 MP camera with a f/2.0 lens. Pictures taken by this comes a little overexposed making it lose out on some details. The front camera can take videos at 1080p at 30fps.
The BoomSound speakers with the great display make for a great movie viewing experience.
The phone has a 2840 mAh battery, and it is not as good as we hoped. The internals on the phone take up a lot of power, and it is very hard to get a full day's worth of charge. Still, you will get about 13 hours of 2G talk time.
The connectivity on the phone is similar to what most phones have. It includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Hotspot, NFC. The phone also has an IR blaster to control other devices.
The M9e is an all-round performing powerhouse. HTC has finally released a phone that could push it towards the limelight.WHAT WE LIKED
