We all have heard of Huawei, a company that is well known for manufacturing routers and Wi-Fi. The company decided to enter the smartphone market segment by launching its Honor series of smartphones in the market. Huawei Honor 6 Plus was attracted a lot of attention owing to the trio of 8-MP cameras i.e. two on the rear and one on the front. According to the company, the use of two cameras side-by-side on the back of the phone can take better snaps than a DSLR. So without wasting any time, lets dive-in in our exclusive Huawei Honor Plus review.

Huawei Honor 6 Plus Design and Display
Huawei Honor 6 Plus Design & Build

The phone has a traditional design, but still manages to look very compact and elegant. The faux glass back panel provided in the phone seems to take its inspiration from Apple iPhone 4 and Sony Xperia Z3, the only problem with the back panel (though it has a Corning Gorilla Glass Protection) is that it’s susceptible to marks and scratches. Along the edges of the phone runs an artificial metallic trim that provides a nifty look. The camera with LED flash light is provided at the top left of the back panel while the power button and the volume buttons are provided at the right edge of the phone. The MicroUSB port is provided at the bottom of the phone, and the 3.5mm audio jack is provided at the top of the phone. Weighing 165 grams, the phone doesn’t feel much heavy when held in hand, as the weight is distributed evenly across the entire body. The phone is big as its dimensions are 5.93 x 2.98 x 0.30 inches.

The Huawei Honor 6 Plus features a 5.5 inches LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors providing a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The phone has a huge 401 pixels per inch, thus producing a stunning and colorful display. The viewing angles are great and so is the sunlight legibility. The only thing we observed with the screen was that even at the maximum brightness, the screen was not that bright.

Huawei Honor 6 Plus Gaming Performance
Huawei Honor 6 Plus Gaming-Performance

The phone is powered by a unique HiSilicon Kirin 925 chipset clocked to Octo-core 1.8 GHz. The special feature of the processor is that it’s indigenously developed by HiSilicon, a subsidiary of Huawei. The processor proves powerful enough to provide a lag free experience. The processor provides encouraging benchmark scores and proves blazing fast for carrying common function that too with no lag at all. High-end games, such as Asphalt 8 runs with almost no lag. The performance of this phone’s processor is comparable to flagship smartphones. The phone runs on Android OS version 4.4.2 (KitKat), with planned upgrade to version 6.0 (Marshmallow), with the help of Huawei’s Emotion UI 3.1 skin. The Emotion UI running on the phone has cool features like the Suspend button, which is a mobile button that houses various kinds of utility options. Again, the UI doesn’t feature an app drawer which might pose a problem for the stock Android users. The pre-installed apps in the phone are kept to a bare minimum, which again is a great thing. The Huawei Honor 6 Plus comes with a 16GB internal memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB using the Hybrid-SIM slot provided in the phone. The phone comes with a 3 GB RAM.

Huawei Honor 6 Plus Camera

The Dual 8-MP rear camera provided in the phone is assisted by a Dual-LED flashlight while the front shooter is also provided with an 8MP camera. HD video recording is done by the camera at frames like 1080p@30fps. The use of dual 8-MP camera does have an enormous impact on the image quality, especially in dim light conditions. The phone manages to take good snaps even in dim lighting conditions, and we were equally impressed with its performance in bright light conditions, too. The video recorded by the phone has issues related to exposure control and image stabilization. The front shooter works surprisingly well, as it takes some impressive selfies. Overall, we can say that the camera lives up to our expectations. Just like Huawei Honor 6, this phone suffers in the audio segment. The speaker provided in the phone doesn’t get too loud while sounds tinny, too.

Huawei Honor 6 Plus Battery

The Huawei Honor 6 Plus is powered by a non-removable 3600 mAh battery that works great. By using the various power saving profiles present in the software, you can extend the battery life considerably. You can easily use the phone for one and a half day with moderate to heavy usage per charge. The Honor 6 Plus supports 4G/LTE on networks, i.e., on the 1800MHz and 2300MHz frequency bands. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, A2DP, EDR, LE, A-GPS, GLONASS/ BDS, NFC, Infrared port, FM radio, microUSB v2.0, and USB Host .

Talking about the Pros and Cons of the phone. The phone has an ultra fast processor that provides a power packed performance. You can play heavy games and videos without any problem. The camera performance is again amazing, as the images captured in dim light conditions are also fantastic. The display is also impressive as it produces natural colors. The phone also has an amazing battery life. If we talk about the negative aspects of the phone, then the only thing that comes to our mind is the sub-par audio quality. Not only the speakers produce the low sound they also sound tinny.
