Huawei has been manufacturing phones since the past few years, and so far, they are doing pretty well. They are basically one of those Chinese smartphone companies that focus on the budget friendly devices. It is not like they have not launched costly devices, but, their devices are supposedly low on prices in comparison to their specifications.
Last month, Huawei announced two new devices. Both the devices are aimed at the large smartphone crowd. Huawei launched Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro in September 2016, and both the models will be available in two editions: average and super-posh. This is an excellent move from Huawei to launch these devices at a time when Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s launch is delayed for quite a while, and it has been some time since iPhone 7 came out.
Both the devices look quite similar in specifications. The only difference so far we have been able to see between the two is their display. Both the devices are expected to be released in the first quarter of 2017. The device will first hit the Asian and Europe based markets, and then within 6 months it will reach rest of the world. By the looks of it, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro looks quite an astonishing device, and its specs seem remarkable too. Let us have a look at it deeply, and find out what else it might have to offer –
The Huawei Mate 9 is surely a beautiful looking device, and with the curved edge display, the Pro model looks astonishing. The phone has round edges and is built on an alloy chassis, meaning a single piece of aluminium. On the top, there are dual 20 megapixels + 12-megapixel primary cameras with Leica lens on its back, which are equipped with dual LED flash. The cameras don’t bulge out at all, so it will be safe to keep the phone down without having to worry about scratches on the lens. Just below the dual camera setting, there is the circle shaped fingerprint sensor.
There are dual speakers, which are placed at the bottom. At the front, there is the home key at the centre, but there are no capacitive buttons around it. On the top, there is an 8-megapixel front camera on the right side of the earpiece. On the other side of the earpiece, there are sensors and probably the second mic. On the left side, we have slots for SIM card and second SIM/microSD card. On the right, there is a volume rocker, and just below it, there is the power key. At the bottom, there is the USB Type-C slot. On the top, there’s a 3.5 mm audio jack. The screen is a 5.5 inch Quad HD curved edge display, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
As the phone has not been released yet, we know little about the configuration of Huawei Mate 9 Pro. As far as the rumours are concerned, it runs on 4GB of RAM. It will have a Hisilicon Kirin 960 chipset, with an octa-core CPU. It will have Mali-G71 MP8 GPU. The internal memory is expected to be 64 GB/128 GB. There is no dedicated microSD card slot, but you will be able to use the second SIM card slot as a microSD card as well. It will accept microSD card up to 256 GB. The smartphone is also said to be water and dust resistant. The phone will run on Android’s latest version v7.0 or v7.1, Nougat.
There is a dual setting camera on the back with Leica lens. A 20 megapixel + 12-megapixel camera. These cameras are equipped with optical image stabilisation (OIS), 2x zoom, phase detection and autofocus. It is capable of recording videos at 2160p. There is a dual LED flash as well. At the front, we have an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
The phone will have a non-removable 4000 mAh battery. The connectivity options are the regular Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, FM Radio and the USB Type-C slot for charging.
