Huawei launched their latest tablet under the name MediaPad M3. This tablet may just look like every other tablet, but, it is quite different. Most of the tablets lack one thing, that is clear speakers. MediaPad M3 is one of the louder tablets with dual Harmon-Kardon speakers, and believe me, they are loud enough. And by pairing it up with an HD screen, you shall have the perfect device for binge watching. Tablets are great for media consumption on the go, and this device seems to be made for it. It is no surprise that Huawei has named this tablet “MediaPad”. The main selling point of this smartphone is its design, loud and clear speakers. Let us take a deeper look at the Huawei MediaPad M3, and see what this new tablet is capable of –
The design of this device has a striking resemblance to that of iPad Mini 4. And not just the design, the performance is also comparable. Dimensions of MediaPad M3 have a slight difference to those of iPad Mini 4. Its dimensions are 215.5 mm x 124.2 mm x 7.3 mm (8.48 in x 4.89 in x 0.29 in). The tablet is sleek and is made inside an aluminium shell. The tablet feels solid and lightweight, both at the same time. It weighs only 322 g, so you can carry it in one hand anywhere easily.
On the right-hand side, we have a slightly textured power button and the volume rocker, with the microSD card slot along the bottom. In 4G model, the microSD card slot also works as a tray for the SIM alongside the microSD card. At the front, we have a 5 MP camera on top, alongside with earpiece and sensors. Below the screen, there’s no home key; it is actually a capacitive button which is the fingerprint sensor. The speakers are positioned at both top and bottom ends. The headphone jack is also positioned at the top. The tablet comes in silver and gold editions. The Huawei MediaPad M3 comes with an 8.4-inch widescreen where the screen uses IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen panel with the depth of 16 million colours. The screen carries a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels, with a pixel density of 359 ppi pixel. So the images and graphics will appear very clear and sharp on this screen. In other words, Huawei MediaPad M3 is perfect for media consumption.
Under the back panel, we have Hisilicon Kirin 950 chipset. It uses Octa-core (4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A72 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex A53) CPU. The GPU used is Mali-T880 MP4. It runs on 4 GB of RAM and has 32 GB/64 GB of internal memory. There is a memory card slot as well, which accepts microSD card up to 256 GB. The tablet comes with Android v6.0 Marshmallow and is probably upgradable to Android 7 Nougat.
On the back, it has an 8-megapixel camera which is capable of recording videos at 1080p. Also, the front facing 5-megapixel camera can record videos at 1080p. The rear camera has autofocus, and its performance is pretty good under every type of lighting conditions. There is no LED flash. The camera app has several features like Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR. Overall, the camera app seems good, and the picture quality is pretty good too.
The Huawei MediaPad M3 uses a 5100 mAh battery, which is non-removable. This tablet is available in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + LTE models. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nac, dual-band, hotspot; Bluetooth v4.1, A2DP, EDR, LE; GPS, with A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS. There’s a microUSB v2.0 port which can be used for data transfer and for charging.
