INTRODUCTION

When we talk about Android tablets, the market has become lukewarm and is now considered as a ‘dead segment’. But when Huawei has declared about their upcoming tabs, MediaPad M5 series seems to bring the trend again. Huawei has revealed their two variants, one of them is MediaPAd M5 8.4 and the other one is MediaPad M5 10.8. The tablet that we are going to discuss is M5 10.8 which is so named because of the screen size. The tab is powered by Kirin Chipset and is backed by 7500mAh battery capacity.

The M5 10.8 is expected to be released in a couple of months and will be available in colors like Champagne Gold and Space Grey. The pricing is yet to be revealed and therefore we are silent on this. It comes loaded with 4GB of RAM and will run on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The MediaPad M5 10.8 comes with a larger display of 10.8-inches which is 2K enhanced ClariVu display with Eye Comfort mode. The display is of IPS LCD with a resolution of 2560*1600 pixels. Basically, it produces bright colors with wide viewing angles that produces a decent display which will be a treat to the eyes.

The Huawei tablet measures 258.7 x 171.8 x 7.3mm in dimensions and is expected to measure 498 grams only. Like other tabs and smartphones, the M5 10.8 also features a primary camera on the rear side and secondary camera on the front side. It is packed in an aluminum body with four speakers and feature 2.5D curved glass screen. The tablet is perfect to hold with two hands and looks stunning in the decent color range.

PERFORMANCE AND CONFIGURATION

Huawei is expected to bring multiple variants of the MediaPad M5 10.8 based on the internal storage capacity. The tablet is expected to run on Android 8 Oreo operating system which is wrapped with EMUI US skin on top. The tablet sports octa-core Snapdragon processor with Kirin 960S chipset. The Kirin 960 SoC hosts A53 and A73 chores of four numbers each for efficient performance. Under the hood, it has Mali G71 8-cluster GPU that provides graphics support to the tablet. Overall, on the software front, the tablet carries the best of the specifications to boost the performance.

The tablet hosts single SIM slot which can be used for memory expansion. The internet connectivity is via Wi-fi only. The default space varies among 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB and has an option to expand the storage capacity up to 256GB. It also hosts fingerprint scanner which is front mounted.

CAMERA AND MULTIMEDIA

As the M5 10.8 is a tablet, Huawei has not much concentrated on the cameras. The tablet hosts 13MP of the primary camera on the rear side accompanied with LED flash and phase detection autofocus. The camera features geo-tagging, face detection, HDR, touch detection, panorama, etc. and can click beautiful images because of its wide-angle coverage. The secondary camera on the front side is of 8MP without LED and can be used for video calling and clicking group selfies.

The secondary and primary cameras can perform video recording of 1080 pixel resolution at a speed of 30 frames per second.

The M5 can play audios of MP3, WAV and Flac player, as well as videos of MP4 and H.264 player. Huawei has failed to provide inbuilt FM Radio and 3.5mm audio jack with the pack.

BATTERY AND CONNECTIVITY

The M5 10.8 is supported by a huge battery life that can provide a capacity of 7500mAh. The battery is Li-Po and non-removable. It can offer video playback of 10 hours and supports turbo-charging which takes 3 hours to charge fully.

The internet connectivity to the tablet can be established via Wifi only. Along with this, there are other wireless connectivity options like Wifi Direct, Dual band, Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.2v, GPS, A-GPS, etc. The wired connectivity options include USB 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.

The tablet is embedded with different sensors which include a fingerprint scanner on the front side and other sensors are an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, and compass.

PROS AND CONS

With the introduction of M5 10.8 and other M5 series, Huawei is now awakening the sleeping segment of the tablet. If you are planning to buy a tablet specifically for video calling, video streaming or multimedia use, then it is worth to wait for the release of this premium device.
