Smartphone manufacturers are getting innovative in their ways of producing high quality flagship devices. They are now collaborating with rival companies in hope of producing better smartphones. LeEco has started collaborating with Coolpad and they have been launching a range of affordable high-end smartphones. They launched their first collaborated handset, the Cool 1 Dual in August of 2016 and they launched their second device, the Cool Changer 1C, in late November of 2016. Recently, they have jointly launched yet another smartphone with the name, Cool Changer S1, in China. LeEco Changer Cool S1 will soon be launched in UAE as well.
LeEco and Coolpad have done a very good job in providing a decent design to the phone. The phone has a full metal design with stylish exteriors that portray its high level of craftsmanship. The phone has three soft touch capacitive buttons, while the fingerprint scanner is provided on the back of the phone, just below the camera module. The volume and the power button are provided on the right edge of the phone. The external dimensions of the phone are 151.4 x 74.7 x 7.5 mm (5.96 x 2.94 x 0.30 in) and it weighs around 168 grams. The phone features a 5.5 inch FHD IPS LCD display that provides a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The display is not protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The FHD display houses approximately 401 ppi that makes the display look pretty attractive. The FHD display attracts its user’s attention and makes sure their eyes are glued to the screen. The color saturation seems to be okay and the contrasts seem to be well balanced. The display gets sufficiently bright so that there would be no problem regarding sunlight legibility. The viewing angles of the phone are pretty decent too. Overall the phone boasts a decent design and an equally decent display.
The phone features with a Quad-core (2x2.35 GHz Kryo & 2x1.6 GHz Kryo) core processor backed by a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset. The processor is able to deliver a power packed performance. We were able to multitask on the phone quite easily and not once did we observe any lag while switching between the apps. Heavy games and videos are played are played without any problem. The Adreno 530 chipset provided in the phone makes sure that the graphics performance of the phone remains top notch. The phone runs on Android v6.0.1 i.e. Marshmallow with the help of EUI 5.8. The phone comes in two variants i.e. one with 64GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM and another with 128GB of internal storage with 6 GB RAM. The RAM provided in the phone proves to be sufficient in running all kinds of apps. The phone supports dual SIM and also supports 4G/LTE networks.
The phone features a 16MP rear camera backed by PDAF and dual-LED (dual tone) flashlight. The camera features include Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Face detection and Touch to focus. Shooting modes include Continuous Shooting and High Dynamic Range mode (HDR). 4K FHD video recording can also be done by the camera. The phone also comes with an 8MP Front Camera. The camera is able to capture amazing images when the lighting conditions are ideal, while in dim light conditions, the image quality falls, but not so much to call the images as bad quality ones. Overall, the rear camera works well and is able to capture amazing images. The front shooter on the other hand, captures impressive selfies. The phone comes with two front-facing stereo speakers that are backed by Harman's Clari-Fi audio enhancing technology. The phone doesn't have a 3.5mm earphone jack and instead comes with a USB Type-C headset.
The phone comes with a 4070 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery. The battery can work for a complete day with heavy usage and supports fast charging i.e. Quick Charge 3.0. Talking about connectivity options, the phone is expected to feature with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nac, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.1, A2DP, LE, A-GPS, Radio and USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. The sensors that come embedded in the phone are Fingerprint, Light sensor, Proximity sensor and Accelerometer.
