Lenovo has become a specialist for producing the budget segment of smartphones. They understood the basic needs of a smartphone enthusiast and delivered smartphones according to these requirements. The Lenovo K3 was launched in December, 2014 and featured as a budget friendly smartphone. The smartphone has marketed with the name ‘Music Melon’ due to its yellow back casing housing two loudspeakers. So, let’s see how this smartphone works in real life.
Talking about the external dimensions of the phone, it has physical dimensions as 5.55x2.78x0.31 inches, which makes it an excellent sized phone. The phone weighs only 128 gm, thus making it a very lightweight smartphone. The phone has a fresh look with its yellow back cover and fresh design. Overall, the phone has an aesthetic appeal and portrays a trendy design. Talking about the display of this phone, the Lenovo K3 features a 5.0 inches IPS capacitive touchscreen that provides a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels that roughly translates to merely 294 pixels-per-inch pixel density. The display looks lively and colourful. The viewing angles are decent enough, however, the sunlight legibility though seems to suffer a little.
The phone is powered by a Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor which has a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset. The quad-core processor works great and seems to play games and videos without any problem. The smartphone was able to play heavily encoded videos easily, and games play without any hiccups. However, sometimes while switching through multiple apps one might observe little lag, but then again it occurs rarely. The smartphone offers 16GB of internal memory, which could be expanded up to 32GB using the microSD card slot provided in the phone. The phone runs on Android OS, version 4.4.2 i.e. KitKat with the help of Lenovo Vibe 2.0. The smartphone has 1GB RAM which is very less than what other smartphone offers at the same price tag. The phone offers dual-SIM functionality and supports 4G/LTE networks.
The phone features an 8MP primary camera that is supported by a LED flashlight, and the front camera is of 2MP. The images captured by the phone are decent; however, the low light photography suffers a little. About multimedia, the phone features a stereo loudspeaker which produces a loud sound. The speaker also features various customization options to tweak the sound. A 3.5mm audio jack is also provided in the smartphone which features active noise cancellation with dedicated mic. The phone also features MP4/XviD /H.265 player, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/Flac player, Photo/video editor and a Document viewer.
The battery provided in the smartphone works averagely. With 2300 mAh Li-Ion removable battery, this phone can work for an entire day with moderate to heavy usage. The battery promises a standby time up to 580 hours and talk-time up to 31 hours. The phone does not support fast charging. The smartphone has connectivity functions, such as Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, dual-band, Wi-Fi direct hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0 with A2DP, A-GPS, FM Radio and microUSB version 2.0.
