Recently, Lenovo came up with three new mega-sized smartphones, or should I say three new phablets with some awesome specifications. Lenovo launched Phab 2, Phab 2 Plus and Phab 2 Pro. Phab 2 Pro is the world’s first Tango tech phablet. Phab 2 Plus does not come with Google’s Project Tango Technology, but it is one of the most affordable Android phones which have some wonderful features. It has two rear 13 megapixel cameras having an aperture of f/1.8 and features Fujitsu Milbeaut, an advanced image processing software used in Leica cameras. The combination of two rear cameras captures high quality photos with great details. Even in low light environment, it captures the image with high contrast and vibrant and natural colours. With the help of augmented reality, you can add different objects and effects to your photos and videos taken by the dual rear cameras. You can also swap the background. The Phab 2 Plus contains sound technology from Dolby Atmos, which promises pleasant surrounding sound. With 6.4 inch Full HD screen, it is a wonderful consumer phone. It runs on Android Marshmallow. Let us take a deeper look at Lenovo’s Phab 2 Plus.
Lenovo Phab 2 Pro measures 173.8 mm x 88.3 mm x 9.6 mm, and weighs 218 grams. It is about 6 mm shorter than Phab 2 PRO but undoubtedly, it is a biggie. It is worth mentioning that the design of all the three devices is similar. One of the reasons why these phones are so large is they are equipped with 6.4 inch sized screens. The device comes in a full metal clad body in two colour variants: champagne gold and gunmetal grey. The volume rocker and power keys are located on the right hand side. At the front, there are no keys, and below the display, there are capacitive keys. Above the display, there is the earpiece and front camera, along with the sensors. On the back, there are two primary cameras with LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is placed just below the cameras on the back. Micro USB slot for charging and data transfer is located at the bottom. The design of Phab 2 Plus is flawless. You cannot use such a big phone while holding in one hand.
All the three phones have 6.4 inch display, but the difference in the quality of the display. Phab 2 Plus has Full HD screen, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The display type is IPS capacitive touchscreen. The screen is protected by 2.5D curved glass.
The phone runs on MediaTek MT8783 Octa Core Processor Cortex A53 clocking max at 1.3 GHz. The GPU used is Mali T720 MP3, and all of this is backed by 3GB of RAM. No to forget the internal memory on this device is 32GB, and you can further increase it up to 128 GB with a microSD card. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, with Vibe UI on top. The performance of Phab 2 Plus is expected to be great with such spec sheet. However, we cannot say much about it before we get our hands on it.
The Phab 2 Plus sports a dual 13 megapixel camera on its back, with phase detection autofocus. Primary camera offers a f/2.0 aperture lens, with laser auto focus assist and 1.34 micro pixels. The combination of dual cameras allows the Phab 2 Plus to render high quality photos with great details even in low light scenarios. Despite low light ambience, high contrast, vibrant and natural colours are always in the offing. This technology also allows great detail in shaded areas and a blurred backgrounds. The augmented reality on this handset comes into play in the form of special effects, thereby allowing you to add different objects and effects in your videos and photos clicked with this device. You can also swap background of the scene as well. On the front, there is an 8 megapixel camera as well, which you can use to take selfies and record videos. The camera app includes several new and all the basic features.
For multimedia, the Phab 2 Plus is equipped with sound technology from Dolby Atmos, which ensures pleasant surround sound experience.
The device consists a total of 3 cameras, along with a fingerprint sensor on its back. And not to forget the gigantic 6.4 inch IPS display screen. Along with these, there is an octa core processor as well. All of this configuration will need a lot of battery backup to run, and to let you use your phablet’s function at any time, Lenovo has used a 4050mAh battery on Phab 2 Plus’s back. You can easily expect the battery to perform well, because there is Android 6.0 running on this phone, and it is battery efficient as well. Although the performance of battery can only be measured once the phone is released.
The Phab 2 Plus is a dual SIM smartphone and accepts one nano-SIM, and one Micro SIM. The second SIM slot which accepts Nano SIM is hybrid and can be used for a microSD card as well. The phablet supports 4G network. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, hotspot; Bluetooth v4.0, A2DP; FM Radio and microUSB v2.0 which supports 2.4x turbocharging.
The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus is a wonderful device with some awesome specs. It has a large screen, 3GB of RAM and it also has 32GB of internal memory. However, due to the presence of such enviable specs, the phone’s performance may get affected. There have been many phones in the past which looked great on spec sheet, but were not able to perform well in reality. We cannot, however, say much about the cons of Phab 2 Plus until it is released and its performance is gauged.WHAT WE LIKED
