LG launched their mid-ranged smartphone Band Play last year in the company’s home country- South Korea. The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 410 chipset which features a 1.2 GHz quad core processor. The screen is 5 inch display and comes with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. For today’s technology level, this is one of those smartphones that have some good specifications and low price. This smartphone also offers 4G connectivity. Other than supporting LTE, this phone features 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera. The LG Band Play has lower than an average battery and some good specs, but, this smartphone aims to focus especially on audio and camera quality. Let us see what this new smartphone from LG has to offer.
The design of the phone can be said to have a similar look to that of Samsung’s Galaxy phones. LG has given it a rectangular bar form, which has quite a bump on the back where the rear camera is placed. It comes with a 5 inch capacitive touchscreen. The screen offers HD display, i.e. 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. The phone build quality is good, and it feels solid in the palm. The dimensions of LG Band Play are 139.70 mm x 71.90 mm x 8.30 mm, and it weighs only 126 gm. There are no sharp edges on the body. The build of the phone is also good, although it is made of plastic.
The phone runs on 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor. It is backed up by 2 GB of RAM, which was considered as pretty awesome spec till last year, but now 2 GB RAM has become quite average. The phone features Android KitKat v5.1 and there is no information about its upgradations to Android 6 Marshmallow, but with the support of 2 GB RAM, the performance is enhanced. With 16 GB of internal memory, there is a dedicated slot for microSD card. You can use up to 32 GB memory card.
The camera is one of the selling points of LG with this smartphone. On the rear, it has a 13-megapixel shooter with wide angle lens and laser autofocus. It is supported with a dual LED flash. At the front, it has a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The camera app is filled with numerous features and scene modes. These scene modes can be used to tweak image quality, select suitable brightness and use stunning picture effects. It has several features like Geo -tagging, touch focus, face detection, smile detection, panorama, HDR etc. Overall, the camera app seems good, and picture quality is also pretty decent.
Another selling point of this handset is its speakers. The phone features bass-reinforced 1W speakers, and it also comes with QuadBeat 3 headset.
The battery can be considered one of the negative aspects of this phone. It features only 2300 mAh LI-ion removable battery, which is quite low for a 4G enabled phone. It is a single sim phone that accepts regular SIM. Other connectivity options are: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, WiFi Direct, Hotspot; Bluetooth v4.1; GPS, with A-GPS, and FM Radio. It also has a microUSB port. As a matter of fact, microUSB port can be used for charging the phone, as well as for data transfer.
