This smartphone retains many of its design features from its previous model LG G3. It comes with minor variations regarding look and feels like it’s customizable rear cover. This smartphone comes either with plastic casing containing a diamond pattern, or it also comes with leather coated plastic casings. The leather covered option is available in six different colours. This smartphone feels premium overall regarding look and feel. It is quite grippy and does not feel slippery while holding too. This smartphone installed with a functional Android OS, v 5.0 (Lollipop). The OS version is upgradable to v 5.1 (Lollipop). The chipset used here is the Qualcomm MSM8916. The brand of this chipset is Snapdragon 410 – H631, H635, MS0631, and H630D. As Snapdragon is responsible, for a slight case of heating of the phone while charging. Additionally, MediaTek MT6592 M – H540 is also used. The central processing is taken care of by a pair of processors. One is a quad – core Cortex-A53 processor while the other is an Octa – core Cortex-A7 processor. One has a clock speed of 1.2 GHz and the other 1.4 GHz.
The Graphics is taken care by a combination of GPU’s namely the Adreno 306 and Mali – 450 MP4 GPUs. No lag is observed in the performance of the phone as a whole. The storage capacity of this phone is such that it has an internal storage space of either 8 or 16 GB. To satisfy its type of target customers who mostly would be heavy users, LG provides the option of expanding the storage too. By using a micro SD card, the storage can be extended up to a max of 256 GB. The RAM specification of this phone is pretty average, though. It has a RAM of a just 1 GB for the 8GB version and a RAM of 2GB for the 16GB version.
It has three cameras overall with a dual main camera of 13 MP + 8 MP and a front camera of 5 MP. The 13 MP main camera has a lens of focal length f/2.4 and the 8 MP primary camera comes with a lens having a focal length of f/2.4. The significant enhancement features for the camera are laser autofocus, LED flash and 3 – axis OIS. Additional features like geotagging, touch focus, HDR, and Panorama are also present. Both the cameras can capture and record amazing videos. The primary camera records videos with a resolution of 1080 pixels at the rate of 30fps supported by HDR and stereo. The audio quality in this smartphone is quite exceptional with high-quality speakers too. It also comes with functional FM Radio feature.
This smartphone comes with a Li – Ion battery which is removable by the user. The capacity of this battery is 3000mAh. It is pretty below average for a phone of this cost. This battery offers a talk time of up to 18 h and a standby time of 432 h while on 3G mode. This phone has two sims which work on GSM network. The sim type compatible is Micro sim. Both work perfectly in both 3G and 4G modes including 4G (LTE). Other essential wireless connectivity facilities like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are present too.
The significant advantages in LG G5 are its overall look and feel, smooth processor, it's good battery life, great software features and excellent primary camera. The disadvantages though are its low-quality display and slightly high price.
