The CES Expo in Las Vegas this year in January had witnessed a lot of HDR TVs and smart appliances such as washing machines and fridges. It wasn’t at all about the smartphones this time and only a handful of smartphone manufacturers launched a few mobile phones. LG was one of those, and they showcased their two new handsets – LG K7 and LG K10. We had already seen L series from LG, and now the successor to the L series is K series smartphones. The L series reached a pretty messed up level last year, as the series wasn’t able to handle more than the third generation which came up last year. So it was a good decision from LG to launch fresh series, rather than piling up the L series with messy model numbers. Both of these new launches are mid-range smartphones with some pretty decent specs. The design of both the devices has been borrowed from LG’s premium V and G series. LG K7 and LG K10 were launched back in January 2016 with Android Lollipop on board, but they both are now upgradable to Android Marshmallow. The LG K10 is the bigger of the two devices and houses a 5.3 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. This smartphone runs on a 64-bit processor. The internal memory, RAM and the processor, along with the GPU vary according to the market of distribution. The battery is 2300 mAh, which is same in all the models. LG has launched a lot of variants of this phone, according to region and connectivity (3G, LTE). Let’s dig a little deeper and find out what else LG has fitted inside this new device of theirs –
The design of the device is somewhat inspired by the iconic G series. The dimensions of LG K10 are 146 mm x 74.8 mm x 8.8 mm (5.75 in x 2.94 in x 0.35 in). It weighs 142 gm. It has the same rear control deck which is positioned just below the primary camera. The phone has a glossy pebble design which is attractive. The rounded design of this phone helps it to sit comfortably in the palm of our hand. The glossy back panel attracts fingerprints very easily, but as the LG is marketing this device by glorifying the new glossy pebble design, grabbing the attention of target audiences seems effortless. The phone comes with a special flip case which gives an entire visible strip along the right side of the display where you can see missed events, date and time when the flip case is closed. You can even pick a call without flipping off the cover. On the back, there’s a primary camera with a single LED flash. The power key and volume rocker are on the left. There is no menu key, as all the Android buttons are on-screen. The display on the front is a 5.3 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. It comes with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and has a pixel density of 277ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The configuration of the phone varies according to the region. The chipsets used on different variants are Qualcomm MSM 8916 Snapdragon 410 (K420N) / Mediatek MT6753 (K430DS, K430DSF, K430DSY). The processor used on this device is Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 (K420N) / Octa-core 1.14 GHz Cortex-A53 (K430DS, K430DSF, K430DSY). The GPUs used in different models are Adreno 306 (K420N), Mali-T720MP3 (K430DS, K430DSF, K430DSY). The phone comes with an internal memory of 16 GB, and the RAM configurations used on different models are 1 GB RAM (K430DSF) / 1.5 GB RAM (K420N, K430DS) / 2 GB RAM (K430DSY). There’s a dedicated memory card slot as well, which accepts microSD card up to 32 GB.
The camera on this device varies according to the connectivity model. On the rear, it has a 13 megapixel / 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus. It is supported with a single LED flash. At the front, it has a 5-megapixel / 8-megapixel selfie camera. Both the cameras are capable of recording videos at 1080p.
The battery used in LG K10 is a mere 2300 mAh Li-ion battery. The connectivity options on the phone are single/dual SIM, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nac, WiFi Direct, Hotspot; Bluetooth v4.1; GPS, with A-GPS, and FM Radio.
