Micromax has been targeting budget segment of smartphones for quite some time now. They are now one of the well recognised brands in the markets. Their strategy of producing budget segment of smartphones seems to be working well. In the present scenario, the company has been facing an intense competition in the markets, as the Chinese companies like Xiaomi have started dominating the smartphone markets. In order to stay relevant and to counter the immense competition, Micromax, has started working considerably on its smartphones. Recently, they launched a budget segment smartphone i.e. Yu Yu5200.
Micromax has tried to provide a decent look to the phone. The phone has a rectangular look coupled with smooth exteriors. The volume rocker has been provided on the left edge and power button has been provided on the right edge of the phone. The speaker has been provided on the lower part of the back panel, while the camera has been provided on top left corner of the back panel. The “Yu” branding has been provided on the back of the phone. The phone is available in three color variants i.e. white, grey and black. Overall, the phone looks decent for a budget segment smartphone. The phone comes with a 5.5-inches Full HD IPS LCD Capacitive touchscreen that would provide screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and roughly corresponding to 401 ppi rich screen. The display is not protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass Protection. The display is amazing for a budget segment smartphone, as the screen gets lively enough and provides a decent viewing experience. The sunlight legibility and viewing angles are decent too.
The phone features a 1.6 GHz Octa Core 64-bit processor that is backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. The phone is also backed by 3GB of RAM. The Qualcomm processor provided in the phone works surprisingly well and the processor is able to play games and apps on the phone easily and without any problem. However, we observed that the phone struggled a little, when we tried heavy multitasking. The Adreno 405 GPU handles the graphic performance of the phone. For general purposes the processor seems to work seamlessly. The phone runs on Android ecosystem, version 5.1 i.e. Lollipop. The phone comes with 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. The best part about this phone is the fact that it is a 4G enabled dual-SIM smartphone.
Micromax has always struggled in providing decent cameras in its smartphones. The Micromax Yu Yu5200 features with an 13MP AF primary camera with single-LED flash. Also, a 5MP front camera has also been provided in the phone. The primary camera supports basic functions like Touch to focus and offers shooting modes such as Continuous Shooting, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR). The camera setting would also include Exposure compensation and ISO control. Camera is capable of FHD videos. The images captured by the rear camera are okay, however, there is a lot of scope for improvement. The low light performance is also not impressive, as the images attract a lot of noise and look shabby. The front shooter is only good enough for video calling. The phone features a decent loudspeaker and also comes with a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Talking about the battery provided in the phone, the phone comes with a 3000mAh Li-Ion battery. The battery provided in the phone is non-removable. In real life conditions, the battery can run for a day with moderate to heavy usage. The battery doesn't support fast charging. Talking about the connectivity options, the phone offers basic connectivity options, such as, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth, GPS and microUSB 2.0. The phone features with three kinds of sensors i.e. Accelerometer, Proximity Sensor, Compass and Gyro Sensor.
