The Microsoft Lumia 1330 is expected to release in 2016. The phone will be a mid-range smartphone made to compete against the likes of OnePlus, Huawei, and Gionee, who are always churning out good looking phones with excellent hardware at ever decreasing prices. The phone is expected to have a bigger camera than the Microsoft Lumia 1320. It will also have a bigger display and the latest Windows OS which we have so far seen in the Lumia 650. In this review, we give more details as to what we expect Microsoft has to hide under its sleeves with the Lumia 1330.
The phone will look characteristic of any Microsoft phone with straight lines, colorful panels, and rectangular shapes. The phone will have a camera in the rear along with an LED flash and speaker with the Microsoft logo in the middle. The front will sport the selfie camera above the 5.7-inch screen and the capacitive buttons in the bottom. The phone will have a bit of bezel on the sides, and there will be an audio jack and micro USB port. The phone will be wide, and one handed use might be difficult. However, the official dimensions and weight of the phone have not been announced. The phone has two SIM card slots, but no microSD slots. The display on the phone will be a 5.7 inch IPS LCD with Corning Gorilla Glass for extra protection. The screen will have a resolution of 720x1280 pixels which will result in a pixel density of 258 ppi. It is pretty decent considering that Lumia phones aren’t well known for their displays. Microsoft has downgraded its display considering that the Lumia 650 has a pixel density of 297. However, the Lumia 1330 screen has vibrant colors, sharper images, and better contrast and is perfect for browsing the web, reading emails and for casual movie watching and gaming. The phone will also sport the glance on feature which makes the screen warmer and the images for soothing to the eyes. Overall, we expect that the Windows 10 experience will be fantastic on this phone.
Beneath that gorgeous exterior will be a Snapdragon 400 chipset and a dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait 300 processor. Microsoft? A dual core? Even entry level phones come with quad core processors nowadays. Although the phone has a 1 GB RAM, we are not sure if the twin Krait 300 processors will be able to handle the fast switching of apps and multitasking that we are so obsessed with now. The Lumia 650 was also destitute on performance, and it frequently freezes up. You can expect the same with this phone too. The windows 10 mobile is a highly unstable build with lots of bugs. Even if the hardware can keep up, the software will often crash especially, when you need it the most. The only upside to the Windows 10 mobile is that you get access to Microsoft’s wide range of tools like word, excel, and PowerPoint. The phone also has an Adreno 305 graphics unit. Other than that, if you are looking for a phone with a stellar performance, look somewhere else, because not only will you get better performance in other phones, but you will also get better graphics. The phone comes with 32GB of internal memory, but it has no expandable storage which is another downside to this phone.
The primary camera of the Lumia 1330 is a 14 MP snapper with features like panorama, geo-tagging, and face detection. It is an upgrade from the Lumia 1320’s 5 MP snapper. It is fitted with Microsoft PureView technology for better images. The camera can record 1080p full HD videos at 30fps. It is less than what other manufacturers provide. Cameras in this range come with 60 fps. The camera app should be same as on other Lumia devices. It should have a simple interface, and many features and effects can be downloaded. The selfie shooter is a 5 MP camera ideal for capturing selfies and video calling. The phone has an accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass. It also comes with OneDrive support with 15GB of free storage and Microsoft’s whole range of office products.
Despite the heavy hardware, Microsoft has decided to go with a 2000 mAh non-removable Li-ion battery. It is less compared to what is present in other phones and will be enough to last you for one day with minimal usage. This battery is less than ideal, especially since it does not offer any fast charging mode either. Although the phone has a very power efficient Snapdragon processor, it will still drain all the available charge very quickly. The phone comes with all the standard connectivity features like 4G, 3G, WiFi, GPS, mobile hotspot, USB, radio, and GLONASS.
After the big success of Microsoft’s Lumia 1320, the Lumia 1330, is a much awaited smartphone. We hope that Microsoft will upgrade their unstable Microsoft Mobile 10 build. The phone is an upgrade with a bigger display and better camera. However, we are not sure if the battery will be able to power the device long enough for it to last one day. Another problem with the phone is the poor hardware, which might cause the device to freeze up like the Lumia 650. The graphics on the device isn’t that great either.WHAT WE LIKED
