The way Nokia had a connection with its customers was surreal and so when the company finally announced that they were venturing into smartphone business again, smartphone users all over the world got excited. They recently announced and subsequently released three phones in the market running Android OS, which marked the return of the Finnish brand into the mainstream smartphone market.
Recently, Qualcomm had hinted about an upcoming Nokia 8 smartphone. The rumored phone was launched on August 16 and the specifications and configuration was opened up for the world to see. Let’s see how this smartphone turns out after the actual configuration has been read out to the world.
The phone has a rectangular design topped with high craftsmanship, thus giving the phone a rather premium look. The phone has a physical home button beneath which is embedded the fingerprint scanner. There are two soft-touch capacitive buttons on either sides of the home button. The volume rocker and the power button are provided on the right edge of the phone. The phone has been launched in a black color variant. The phone has a USB-C port on the bottom, a dual camera-module on the brushed Alumiunium finished back panel, with an LED flash. Overall, the design of the phone is pretty much premium and the phone looks beautiful.
If we talk about the display of the phone, the phone will feature a 5.3 inches capacitive touchscreen with 2K resolution and 10-point multi-touch support. The screen resolution stands at of 1440 x 2560 pixels with approximately 554 ppi pixel density). The display provided in the phone shall be protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The screen will provide a fantastic viewing experience. With these specs the phone will have amazing sunlight legibility and great viewing angles. The phone is powered by the SnapDragon 835 Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9GHz Kryo) SoC chipset. The SD 835 chipset has been long determined as a great performer and is a tried and tested one, having been incorporated in many flagship phones. For the graphics processing part, we have an Adreno 540 GPU provided in the phone. The GPU will ensure that games and videos will run on the phone without any lag, stutter or frame drops. The phone runs on Android platform and phone will ship with Android v7.1.1 Nougat. Android 8.0 Octopus update will be rolled out very soon. Nokia 8 comes in two variants - one with a Single SIM slot and another with a hybrid Dual-SIM slot, where The internal storage could also be expanded by its users up to 256GB through a microSD card. It is also believed that the phone would come with a whopping 6GB of RAM, which according to us would be more than sufficient to run almost all kinds of apps. The phone will support dual SIM and would definitely support 4G/LTE networks.
The Nokia 8 comes with a 13MP+13MP dual-rear cameras, dubbed 'bothies.' Nokia specially partnered with Carl-Zeiss lenses to get the best of the technology in their phones. The cameras are capable of capturing two distinct images and then merging them as one, working as a typical stereo camera. Another interesting feature of the phone is that the phone is able to record, capture and stream using both, the rear panel and the front panel cameras simultaneously - a feature absent in any other phone in the world. The front camera is a 13MP AF camera too optimised for image capture, and video calling.
Backed by high-end features such as Optical Image Stabilization, phase detection autofocus and dual-LED (dual tone) flashlight, other minor camera features include Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Face detection and Touch to Focus. Both the cameras are capable of capturing videos in 4K resolution.
On the audio part, Nokia has incorporated the OZO Audio technology in the phone that will allow the user to capture sound in a 360° surround sound mode and playback in the same way. Popular audio formats supported by the phone include AAC, WMV, MIDI, MP3 etc. Video formats include AVI, WMV, MP4 etc.
The phone will feature a non-user replaceable battery with a 3090 mAh charge capacity. Given the SD 835, The battery will support Quick Charge 4.0. Talking about connectivity options, the phone is expected to come with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ ac, dual-band, WiFi Direct, hotspot, Bluetooth version 5.0, A2DP, LE, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB version 3.1 and a Type-C reversible connector. The other sensors that are expected in the phone are Fingerprint (front-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and heart rate.
