There is popular saying that ‘What goes around comes around’ and so the era of flip phones is back again. Samsung recently made an official announcement of its Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 in their Chinese website and it’s already creating a buzz. However, the availability and the pricing of the smartphone remains unknown. It might be possible that the smartphone might be restricted to the Chinese market itself. The phone features as the successor of the Samsung Galaxy Folder smartphone which was launched last year (i.e. 2015). So, let’s see what this smartphone has to offer to its users and if it would be able to capture the attention of the common masses.
Talking about the external dimensions of the phone, it has physical dimensions as 122 x 60.2 x 15.4 mm, which makes it a rather handy phone. The phone weighs 160 gm, which makes again is not that heavy. The Galaxy Folder 2 has the same design as its predecessor, with mild changes in the keypad section and the added option of the metallic silver colour. The phone sports a full metal body, a physical keypad and the retro feel of the flip smartphones. Talking about the display of this phone, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 features a 3.8-inch WVGA display that provides a screen resolution of 480x800. The display looks rather neat; however, you can’t expect it to have much from the display compared to the touchscreen smartphones present in the market.
The phone is powered by a 1.4 GHz, Quad-core processor which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset. Thus, enabling the device to work effortlessly and operate various applications easily. The smartphone offers 16GB of internal memory, which could be expanded up to 128GB using the microSD card slot provided in the phone. The phone runs on Android OS, version 6.0 (Marshmallow). To make the interface user-friendly, the smartphone is powered by a 2GB RAM. The phone supports dual SIM functionality and works on 4G/LTE networks, too.
The phone features an 8MP primary camera that is supported by a LED flashlight and a f/1.9 aperture. The front shooter is provided with a 5.0 MP camera. The images captured by the phone are decent; however, low light photography is not that great. Talking about multimedia, the phone features a stereo loudspeaker, 3.5mm audio jack with active noise cancellation and dedicated mic. The phone also features MP4/XviD /H.265 player, MP3/WAV/eAAC+/Flac player, Photo/video editor and a Document viewer. There are three sensors provided in the smartphones, such as acceleration sensor, proximity sensor and a Hall sensor.
The battery provided in the smartphone works averagely. Having topped with a 1950 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery, this phone can work for an entire day with light to moderate usage. It is expected that the battery would work for 318 Hours on stand-by mode. The smartphone also comprises the connectivity functions, such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth version 4.2, A-GPS, GLONASS and microUSB version 2.0.
