The world famous Samsung smartphone company, after the successful launch of its Samsung Galaxy S8, launched another variant of the world famous phone, the Galaxy S8 Active. We saw Samsung Galaxy S7 Active last year with amazingly rugged design built to last. Galaxy S8 Active was in ruomurs for a very long time, and the phone was indeed real, and is now available for purchase. Sharing very little design with the other variants of the S8 series, the S8 Active is a phone not meant for fancy looks. Let's take a look at the phone and how much is it different from previous Samsung Galaxy S7 Active.
As far as the design of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active is concerned, the design is roughly the same as previous phones which was only limited to Galaxy Active series. However, the Samsung Galaxy Active series design has always evolved, so has the design for the S8 Active. There are no physical buttons this time and the screen has been made larger instead. Physical buttons anyway make a phone vulnerable to dust and water to some extent. Being a rugged device, this is to be prevented as an obvious measure. Galaxy S8 Active has a 5.8 inches Super Amoled display with a 2K (3480 x 2160 pixels) screen resolution with Gorilla Glass Protection. the design has been carefully chosen so as to keep the utility factor of the phone on the top ppriority. The back panel houses the camera module as well as the fingerprint sensor. The power and volume control buttons will be on the sides. The screen is flat and sratch resistant. Other than that, the body of the phone will be made out of polycarbonate back and a metal frame, so that the phone can handle rough tackling and harsh environments, such as desert, mines, construction sites etc. Since the device is meant for a rugged use, the manufactuing is done conforming to the electronic devices standards of the military.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active runs on Qualcomm MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 with an Octa-core CPU running 4 x 2.35 GHz Kryo & 4 x 1.9 GHz Kryo cores. Since all the Galaxy S series phones have already received the Android v7.0 Nougat update, the S8 Active too ships with the OS out-of-the-box. The device uses the Adreno 540 GPU for graphics processing. Since the primary intention of the phone is not gaming, the coding has been optimised for other applications that are used by miners, constrcution managers and other people on field jobs. The phone has 4GB RAM and 64GB internal memory which expandable by up to 256 GB using a dedicated microSD slot.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active will have all the major sensors like Fingerprint, Accelerometer, Gyro, Proximity, Compass, Barometer, etc. Like previous versions of Galaxy Active Series, the new phone will have Samsung Pay too, which is Visa and MasterCard certified. The RAM of the phone will be enough for multi-tasking on an altogether different level. The optimisation has been done keeping in mind the aspects wherein the phone's usage may even become a matter of life and death. Another feature that we love about Galaxy phones are they are IP68 certified, and so is the S8 Active.
Samsung Galaxy phones are popular for their camera performance; that's because Samsung's R&D team pays close attention to detail. The primary camera is on the rear panel. The camera has a resolving power of 12MP, has an f/1.7 26mm lens and comes with OIS and can shoot videos with up to 4K resolution. Other features include Panorama, slow motion, HDR, face/smile detection, etc. Both the cameras are supposed to have the best resolution and picture quality in their class. The phone will be able to play all standard audio and video file formats like MP3, WAV, FLAC etc. All the messaging services like MMS, E-mail etc will also be supported. The phone has a 3.5mm jack.
Samsung galaxy S* Active battery capacity stands at 4000mAh, down by 200mAh as comprared to last one. Well, this isn't something to be worries about as the SD835 is specifically optimised for power consumprion and performance balance. But yes, a smaller battery is a downside indeed. Reversible charging (using USB-C cable) and fast charging support is on the cards for sure. Samsung Galaxy S8 Active dual SIM (nano + nano) compatible. Both SIM card slots are 4G supportive with VoLTE standards. For wireless connectivity, the phone has a wifi antenna with IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ ac/ standards. Bluetooth v5.1 w/ A2DP, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, but no FM radio. The phone doesn't support Java either. The phone's sensor squad includes an iris scanner on the front panel, a fingerprint sensor (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, heart rate monitor. Samsung has ensured the phone is a complete package for utility.
