The all new Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 is a wonderful package, which offers a 10 inched screen along with Android 6.0 and LTE + WiFi connectivity. The tablet comes with a better build quality than its predecessors, but it is not as exciting as Sony’s Xperia Z2. The tablet is targeted towards the price conscious consumers. Samsung has used their Exynos 7807 Octa SoC, that has replaced Qualcomm quad core SoC which was used in its predecessor. Let’s take a deeper look at it –
As the name suggests, it is a 10.1 inch tablet, which has a leather effect backplate, just like several high end Samsung tablets and smartphones. The leather is stitched on its edges, while the smoky metallic finish can be seen on its sides. All this can be very confusing because it not at all real. The back panel is pure plastic and the stitching is merely an embossed design. Although it does seem pretty suspecting, the back is griping and nice, which makes the tablet easier to hold. The screen has a 1200 x 1920 pixel resolution which is 10.1 inch in size. The pixel density is 299 ppi.
The tablet runs on Exynos 5420 processor, which is made by Samsung itself with eight cores. There are four high performance Cortex A15 1.9 GHz cores and four 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 cores which are of low power. The tablet uses Mali T830 MP2 GPU. It is backed up by 2GB of RAM. Android Marshmallow v6.0 looks good, and with the support of 2GB RAM, the performance is much better than any other tablet in this range. With 16 GB of internal memory, there is a dedicated slot for microSD card. You can use up to a 256 GB memory card. Although, as the tablet is targeted towards price conscious consumers, the memory seems a little on the shorter side. Using a memory card seems a must with this tablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 has two cameras, which is common for a high end tablet. The rear camera is a 8 megapixel one and on the front there is a 2 megapixel camera. The main camera features autofocus. The cameras are not up to Samsung’s top quality smartphone cameras in terms of image quality, but it is much better than an average tablet. There is a single LED flash as well on the back. The front camera is very useful to make video calls, and is not made for selfies as its resolution is very low.
The tablet uses a non-removable battery which has a capacity of 7300 mAh. You can watch over 10 hours of videos on this tablet. The speakers in this tablet are not so good. The volume is low and thin, also it gets harsh on top volume. The speakers are located on both sides, which seems good while playing games and films, when stereo sound is better, but it also makes its quality a little weak. For connectivity, this model accepts a Micro SIM, which supports GSM, HSPA and LTE network. It also has WiFi Direct, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nac, dual-band, hotspot; GPS, with A-GPS; Bluetooth v4.2, A2DP, LE; GLONASS, Beidou; and a microUSB v2.0 slot for charging and data transfer.
