Do guys remember Sony from back in the day when the smartphone hype began? Sony was all over the smartphone market when Android was in its infancy. The company was also very popular, but slowly and sadly, Sony seems to have disappeared from the market completely. Their last triumph was the Z series, which had its good moments until the new generation wiped them out.
However, the company is looking for a comeback and their latest weapon has been revealed on GFXBench. There aren’t any details regarding the release date, it’s only a leak revealing some key features of the device. By the looks of it, Sony seems to have adopted a new smartphone design and by discarding the age-old square edges taking up rounded ones. The leaked image shows the back of the device, which reveals a single camera and a flash. As of now, we await further information.
According to the leaked image, the Sony H4233 had a cyan colored uni-body body design. Known for its slimness back in the day, the power button of the smartphone seems to be as wide as the edge itself, denoting that the H4233 will also have a very slim design. Moving on to the screen, it’s a 6-inch full HD display decked at 1280 x 1080 pixels. Whether or not the display will be an LCD or an AMOLED we don’t know for sure. Sony was never famous for its display in the past. If anything, even the Z series ones had dub par screen, with pixelated icons due to a lack of pixel density. With the introduction of the H4233 we are is expected that the trend might change for the better. The new design that Sony is going for seems also seems quite impressive.
Under the hood, the Sony H4233 is is rumoured to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, clocked at 2.2GHz which seems quite powerful. They shall be changing the processor architecture from the traditional ARMv53 to ARMv8 as well, hence, the extra clock speed. In terms of the GPU, it will be having the Adreno 508. In the memory department, the actual max storage and RAM wasn’t mentioned. Instead, the leaks revealed the available RAM and storage after the system has taken a chunk form it, which is 3.7GB and 43 GB respectively. So it can be assumed that the H4233 has 4GN or RAM and 64GB of internal storage. As far as system memory goes, Sony is taking up quite a lot. OpenCL 2.0 is now supported as well, which will result in some smooth processing and may prevent the lag issues from which most Sony devices suffered after a few months of usage. There was no mention of any expandable storage options and H4233 will also have Android 8.0.0 Oreo out of the box. Sony is entering the market after a long break, and let’s hope it has something good up its sleeve.
The camera has always been a strong point for Sony and it looks like they will be keeping that streak. The only hiccup is that it has only a single rear sensor. The H4233 shall come equipped with a 21-megapixel shooter that supports phase detection autofocus, HDR, panorama and many more features. But in a time where phones have deal sensors, Sony will have a hard time fitting into the competition. Video recording, however, is supported at 4K resolution and possibly @30fps. The 15-megapixel front camera will also support 4K video recording capabilities as revealed by the sneak peeks.
In terms of we are assuming that it will support the basic audio and video codices. MP3, WAV, eAAC+, M4a and MP43, FLV, and H.264 for audio and video support receptively.
Sadly most of the specs related to the device are still in the mist. The leaks didn’t reveal much about the battery, fingerprint sensor or the connectivity options for the device. For now, we can only assume it to come equipped with the latest specs out there. A battery ~3500mAh should be enough along with 4G connectivity support. There is also no report on the availability if the EM radio.
