Sony has registered two model numbers Xperia G3121 and G3112 with a Russian regulatory body. Both Xperia handsets were spotted at Eurasian Economic Commission too, but it is not clear that they would fall under which price segment. Currently, there is no additional information available for both models, but we can expect some of the tech events like Mobile World Congress. The event will take place at the end of February, so we still have around 3 months to get accurate details about the Sony Xperia G3112.
In 2015 Sony launched Exxxx model numbers and in 2016 they released Fxxxx model numbers, so it is quite understandable that G3112 model number represents the smartphone coming in 2017. A little more can be presumed by looking at the model number, the internal model number of Xperia XA was F31XX so the new upcoming Xperia G3112 could be a mid-range device or a simple upgrade of that previous generation phone. However, there is no guarantee of it because Sony usually doesn't follow the similar pattern all the time.
The rounded frame with the scratch-resistant curved glass display of Xperia XA was appreciated by users because it provides good grip over the phone and awesome viewing experience. The upcoming Xperia G3112 is likely to have the similar design with minor changes to provide more comfort and match everyone's personality. The phone is expected to have a 5.0 inch or 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch facility and Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution.
Smartphones introduced by Sony are always considered perfect for watching videos and playing games in landscape mode and hopefully this phone won't be an expectation. We have no doubt that Xperia G3112 would be a thin and light weighted smartphone and will be shipped in multiple colours such as Graphite Black, White, Rose Gold and Lime Gold.
The Sony Xperia G3112 will be released in 2017 so you can expect it to run latest Android 7.0 Nougat from day one. Speculations suggest that the phone will be powered by an Octa-core processor (64-bit), but it would be too early to claim anything about the clock speed. In Xperia XA, Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 chip and Mali-T860MP2 GPU were used so we can expect the advance version of the CPU and GPU from the same companies to provide fast performance and excellent graphics.
The Octa-core processors are power efficient and increase the battery life by approximately 30%, which seems essential for every smartphone now a days. Rumours claim that the phone will have 4GB RAM which is double than the previous Xperia XA so we can also expect the internal storage of 32GB or 64GB which would be expandable via a micro SD card. The phone is also supposed to have loudspeakers, 3.5 mm audio jack and sensors like proximity, accelerometer and digital compass.
We have always seen that the most loyal customers of Sony are usually passionate about photography and that's why the company focuses a lot on this particular part while manufacturing the device. Although there are no official details available about the camera quality of the upcoming Xperia G3112 since we are comparing the device with the current Xperia XA, we can assume that the camera of the new phone would be a simple upgrade. It is also necessary to compete in the market because most of the smartphones are coming with 18MP or 21MP primary camera these days.
It is possible that Sony might equip an 18MP rear camera with a big sensor size that eventually results in large pixels and provides better resolution compared to another camera with the smaller pixel size and a high megapixel rating. The rear camera may also pack features like dual tone LED flash for bright and clear pictures in low light conditions, Phase Detection and Laser autofocus for fast and accurate focusing on moving subjects and multiple camera modes like HDR and Panorama to enhance image quality. Sony might repeat the 8MP front camera with f/2.0 lens aperture and autofocus technology because it is sufficient to take outstanding selfies with ease.
The drawback of Xperia XA was its 2300 mAh Li-Ion battery which used to provide around 10 hours of talk time on 3G networks. Though it seems satisfactory, since other smartphones are coming with huge batteries, Sony has to provide a strong battery backup too. We got information through some unofficial sources that Sony will probably launch the new phone with a 3200 or 3500 mAh battery which will last the whole day long in 3G and 4G network. The phone is expected to have Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless connectivity and will include A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, FM radio and USB 2.0 port as other connectivity options. It is likely to have a dual SIM card slot which will support Nano SIM and micro SD card.
