Xperia Z series is the flagship smartphone series from the world famous Sony Mobile Communications. One such good smartphone of this series is the Sony Xperia Z3 Plus, which is an upgraded version of its predecessor model, the Sony Xperia Z3. This model was first announced in April 2015. Then it went on to be released in the markets for sale in June 2015. After this model, the Sony Xperia Z5 has also been manufactured. Sony Xperia Z3 Plus comes with an Aluminium frame, beautifully encasing highly durable tempered glass panels. This gives the smartphone a very premium look. The tempered glass surface though makes it quite slippery to hold. The entire phone is built based on ‘Omni – balance’ design which includes other important features like IP65/68 dust protection, water jet protection and waterproof rating over 1.5 m and a duration of 30 mins. The length of this phone is 146 mm, and the breadth is 72 mm. This phone is very sleek with a thickness of just 6.9 mm. This smartphone weighs an average of 144 g and is not all that heavy. The display in this smartphone is an IPS LCD capacitive. The screen size is 5.2 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It also has 10 finger multi-touch feature. This smartphone comes with extensive protection. It has a Scratch- resistant oleophobic glass coating. Additional enhancement features special in this phone is the presence of Triluminos display supported by an X – Reality Engine. It comes in four color variants namely White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green.
Running on the Android OS v 5.0 (Lollipop), Xperia Z3 Plus can also upgrade the OS to v 6.0 (Marshmallow) later. The chipset used here is Qualcomm MSM8994. The processor type used here is Snapdragon 810. The central processing and control are taken care by a pair of processors. One of the processors is a Quad – core, Cortex – A53 and the other one is a Quad – core processor too, but it is Cortex – A57. The clock speeds of each of these processors are 1.5 and 2 GHz respectively. The graphics interface of this smartphone is controlled by an Adreno 430 GUI. Due these dual processors, there is almost no lag found in the performance. The internal storage space available in this smartphone is 32 GB. Even though this capacity is quite enough, it also comes with the option of externally expanding the memory using a microSD card up to 128 GB max. The RAM space available in this smartphone is 3 GB.
Sony Xperia Z3 plus has the primary camera of a whopping 20.7 MP, which has a lens aperture focal length of f/2.0. The wide angle of focus is around 25 mm. It comes with an LED flash to provide ample lighting in cases of lack of natural light. The size of the sensor used is 1/ 2.3 inches with a pixel size of 1.12 micrometer. Other supportive features available are the auto focus, geo-tagging, face detection, HDR, and panorama. The secondary or front camera comes with a mere 5.1 MP and an aperture focal length of f/ 2.4. The main camera records videos at three different settings. One is with a resolution of 2160p at the rate of 30fps. One more with a resolution of 1080 at a rate of 60fps and the third mode, where the resolution is around 720p at the rate of 120fps. The audio in this smart is above average. It also has a fully functional FM Radio feature with RDS technology.
The battery in Sony Xperia Z3 Plus is the non – removable type. It has a Li – Ion battery with a capacity of 2930 mAh. The average standby time is up to 580 h in 3G mode and 590 h in 2G mode. It comes with a talk time of up to 12 h in 3G mode and up to 17 h on 2G mode. During music playback, it lasts up to 91 h. Z3 Plus comes only with a single sim which is compatible with Nano – sim and works only on GSM network. Also, it is compatible with 2G, 3G, and 4G modes It also comes with the basic wireless connectivity features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Sony Xperia Z3 Plus has few advantageous features like good processor, high RAM, decent battery and excellent main camera. The cons though are its poor build, below the average front camera and a slightly high cost.
