Earlier this year, Videocon launched their latest series of smartphones, and Graphite V45DD was one of them. It is a budget friendly smartphone. Videocon has designed this phone for the people who want to buy a smartphone that is tagged at a low price and which has enough features. Had the phone been released two or three years ago, everybody would have been in awe of the specs of this smartphone. But in this current generation of smartphones, this phone is not worth the moolah. It is a dual SIM phone which accepts both primary and secondary micro SIM. This phone has dual standby card. As a result, you can use both SIM at the same time. Also, both of the SIMs support 3G network. Graphite V45DD runs on Android v5.1 (Lollipop) operating system. Videocon has used Spreadtrum SC7731 chipset in Graphite V45DD. It has integrated 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor. The dedicated GPU is used to enhance video watching and gaming performance. The phone is backed by 1GB RAM for process acceleration. Let us take a deeper look and investigate if this phone will be able to compete in today’s smartphone market.
The phone has a very simple looking design. At its front, it has an earpiece on top and a proximity sensor and front camera on its either sides. Capacitive Android touch keys are at the bottom. On the right side, it has a volume rocker positioned at the top and just below it is the power key. There is no camera key on the right side, and the left-hand side is completely left blank. On the back, at the top center, there is the primary camera and just below it is the single LED flash. The camera area bulges out a bit from the body. You will have to take care of the lens while keeping it down. The 3.5 mm jack is on the top right. The charging USB port is at the bottom and so is the speaker. The dimensions of this phone are 136 mm x 70.8 mm x 11 mm, and it weighs 123 grams.
The Videocon Graphite V45DD features 4.5-inches HD IPS Capacitive touchscreen. The screen has 480 x 854 pixels resolution. As there is no protection for the display, there is a scope for scratches and other physical damage. This is very odd. A protective glass is a must for a smartphone. The pixel density is also very low. The screen offers a pixel density of 218 ppi. It is very dull. The interesting point is that the phone offers multi-touch.
Videocon has used Spreadtrum SC7731 chipset in Graphite V45DD. The three main workers who hold the performance of this phone together are 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, GPU Mali 400 MP2 and to back it up all; a 1 GB RAM is used. Graphite V45DD runs on Android v5.1 (Lollipop) operating system, which seems a little old school as most of the smartphones releasing in 2016 run on the latest Android v6 Marshmallow. The phone has 8 GB of internal memory, which can be further increased to 32 GB with the help of dedicated microSD card slot. Here as well, the internal memory should have been at least 16 GB.
The primary camera positioned on the back of Videocon Graphite V45DD is a 5-megapixel camera. This camera is capable of capturing images up to a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. There is also an LED flash placed below it, which shall come in handy while taking pictures in low light environment. You can also use this LED flash as torchlight. On the front, there is a 2-megapixel selfie camera. This camera could use for taking selfies and for video calling as well. The picture quality of the front camera is decent, but the primary camera is not so good. For a 5 megapixel camera, the images show a lot of noise and also the colours don’t quite show well. The camera app features Auto Focus, Face Detection, Panorama, Self-Timer, HDR, Face Beauty, Geo-tagging, and Night Vision.
For multimedia, there is nothing impressive or new on this phone. There is a 3.5 mm audio jack where you can attach your headphones. The phone’s audio player supports formats such as MP3, WAV, AAC, AAC+, MID, etc., and video player supports MP4. The gallery app is very simple and looks almost like an android app.
The Graphite V45DD comes with a 1600 mAh Li-ion battery. The battery is removable. Here as well, the battery does look like a very small one, but as the phone doesn’t have many high specs, Videocon might just pull this one off. But still, the battery should have been at least 1800 mAh. The phone is not out yet. Hence, we cannot say much about the battery before testing it for hours. But on first look, the battery seems small.
For connectivity, the phone uses SIM dual standby and has a dedicated slot for the second SIM. Videocon has not used hybrid second SIM / microSD card slot here. The phone supports 3G network. The maximum download speed is 42.2 Mbps and upload speed is 5.76 Mbps. Network band used for 2G are GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz, and network band used for the 3G mobile network are HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz. Other connectivity options are Wi-Fi 802.11, b/g/n, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v2.1, GPS with A-GPS and FM Radio. The microUSB port is provided for charging and data transfer. There is no NFC.
The Videocon Graphite V45DD doesn’t have much to offer.WHAT WE LIKED
