Vivo is still a recent smartphone manufacturer having started making phones in 2009 and launching them primarily in China. The company gained a lot of popularity with its X series of mid-range premium looking smartphones. The company recently started selling in India and have released the X9 in November 2016. The phone has a lot of new features like a full metal body and a dual front camera which are not commonly seen in a mid-range smartphone. In this review, we take a look at some of the features of this newly released smartphone.
The phone comes in two gorgeous colours of Gold and Rose Gold. The phone has a full metal body with antenna lines that are similar looking to an iPhone. This is not uncommon as many Chinese manufacturers are copying the iPhone design to sell their products. The only difference in the X9 and any Apple phone is the square shaped home button. The button has two capacitive touch buttons on the side. The phone also has a super thin bezel on the edge of the screen. The screen itself is an amazing Full HD 5.5 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1080x1920 giving it a pixel density of 401 ppi. The screen is very bright with realistic colours and high contrast with dark black’s characteristic of an AMOLED display. The body to screen ratio is a huge 74%. Further, the screen is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass which makes it resistant to scratches and cracks.
The phone comes with a 1.4 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 processor. It has a 4GB RAM. This is one of the best configuration of a mid-range smartphone and should give you lightning fast performance without draining much charge from your battery. The 653chip is great at multi-tasking and running more demanding games like Asphalt. 3D games might not work, but the phone will easily breeze through normal games, and the screen will give you a life-like experience. The phone also sports a nice Adreno 530 graphics unit that will improve gaming and video viewing performance. The phone comes with two internal memory configurations of 64 GB and 128 GB. However, there is no memory card slot to increase memory.
Other features the phone has are a fingerprint reader on the home button. This improves the safety of the phone. The reader is one of the fastest and most accurate in the price range. The phone runs on Android Marshmallow with its Funtouch OS on top.
The primary camera on the phone is a 16 MP shooter with phase autofocus and LED flash. The phase autofocus will give you less focusing time and better crisp images. The front camera can also record videos at 1080p at 30 fps. The secondary camera on the phone is worth more focusing. It has dual sensor with one having a resolution of 20 MP and the other of 8 MP. This will give the images more depth and better and more realistic colour. However, due to the two sensors, the time taken to take images increases and the phone takes a long time to write images to the disc. If you are willing to give in more time for better images, then there is no competition to the quality of the picture with other phones in the same price range. The front camera can record videos at a resolution of 1080p.
The phone comes with a large 3050 mAh battery. Even though the chipset of the phone are more battery friendly, the screen is a huge drain on the stored charge. Overall, without running more demanding apps, the phone should last at least for a day. The phone also comes with fast charging which gives you more time with the phone without having to charge it continuously for longer times.
The Vivo X9 is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts both Nano-SIMs only. Connectivity options are standard and include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40 used by some LTE networks in India), FM.
