It’s all about innovation these days as smartphone manufacturers have ventured into unchartered territories to make their phones unique. Xiaomi is one such company that has been able to make a unique smartphone i.e. Xiaomi Mi Mix. The phone became world’s first to have near a bezel-less display with a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3%. The phone made waves in the smartphone community as people couldn’t wrap around the idea of a bezel-less display. The phone was never launched worldwide, and its sales were limited to China itself. Recently, many rumours are coming about the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 that the company might launch this phone even in other parts of the world. There have been lots of rumours and people have started expecting a lot more from Xiaomi through their new products. So, let’s see what the new rumours say about the phone and if it carries some level of credibility.
There has been a lot of concept images for the Xiaomi Mi Max’s successor, and one thing that remains common in all of them is the 99% screen-to-body ratio. However, we really think that’s far from reality for quite some time now. The Xiaomi Mi Max was sold in China as a phone having an edgeless display. However, we think that the upcoming Mi Max 2 might still be almost bezel less, more like the Nubia Z11 smartphone. Now there are rumours that the Mi Mix 2 would not be provided with a selfie camera anywhere on the front panel of the phone. Instead, it could be housed on the slide-up arm which would also carry the rear camera. Now, in the previous Xiaomi Mi Mix smartphone we observed that the fingerprint scanner was shifted to the right edge of the phone as it was integrated with the power button. Similarly, we can expect in Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 also. As per the camera placement, the rear camera can be found with the dual-LED flashlight on the back panel of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2. Also, the speaker grill, 3.5mm audio port and USB Type-C Port, shall be provided on the bottom edge of the phone. Talking about the display we believe that the phone shall feature with Full HD IPS LCD display which would provide a screen resolution of 1080 x 2040 pixels. Just like its predecessor the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 shall have a fantastic display with amazing viewing angles and great sunlight visibility.
We believe that the phone might feature with a next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, however, if Xiaomi goes with the same processor found in the Xiaomi Mix, we wouldn’t be disappointed either, as the Quad-core (2x2.35 GHz Kryo & 2x2.19 GHz Kryo) backed by Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset provided in the Xiaomi Mi Max turned out to be really impressive. We believe that the smartphone might come in two variants i.e. 128 GB, 4 GB RAM or 256 GB, 6 GB RAM just like its predecessor. The phone would necessarily work on the new Android OS i.e. Android version 7 (Nougat) with the help of the latest version of MIUI. The phone shall be dual SIM and would support 4G networks.
Now the previous Xiaomi Mi Max featured with 16 MP, f/2.0 camera that was backed by EIS (gyro), face detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and check quality. The front shooter provided in Mi Max was a 5MP camera. According to the online reports, the camera specs could remain same with the added difference of better sensor. We had a lot of complaint with the previous Mi Max’s picture quality and hopefully the camera in Mi Max 2 would capture better pics. A speaker and 3.5 mm audio jack shall also be provided with the phone.
The Xiaomi Mi Max featured with a Non-removable Li-Ion 4400 mAh battery, and we hope that the battery might come with even better specs in Xiaomi Mi Max 2. The battery performance of the Mi Max was impressive, and we hope it would be the same in the case of Mi Max 2. However, we do believe that the battery would support fast charging. The connectivity options of the phone shall include dual-band, WiFi Direct, Hotspot, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/nac, Bluetooth Version 4.2, A2DP, LE, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, NFC and Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. The other sensors that are expected to come with the phone include the accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass and barometer.
