Xiaomi has been continuously upping their game in the smartphone industry by launching decent smartphones at an affordable price tag. The Xiaomi smartphones are not only budget friendly but also offer some decent hardware too. Adding to its long list of smartphones, Xiaomi, is all set to launch its “Redmi 4” smartphone. It is believed that the smartphone features some nifty upgrades compared to its predecessor and is set to rock the smartphone market. So, let’s see what this smartphone might offer in real life and how it might work in real life.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime features with a 2.5D curved glass just like its sibling Xiaomi Redmi 4. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime has a similar design as the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and shares the same form factor as its sibling, as this smartphone also comes with 5 inches display. Metal alloy has been used in the back of the phone, while plastic is used in front and some part of the rear panel. To the back of the phone, just below the rear camera is provided with the fingerprint scanner, which works great and with high accuracy. The external dimensions of this phone are 5.56 x 2.74 x 0.35 inches. The phone is expected to weigh 156, which again is reasonable.
The Redmi 4 Prime shall be available in three colour variant i.e. Gold, Dark Gray and Silver. The display of the phone shall feature a 5.0 inches FHD IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that shall provide a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and roughly translates to 441 pixels-per-inch pixel density. The viewing angles appear to be great, and the sunlight legibility is decent too. Overall, the design and display of the phone are fantastic.
The phone is powered by a 2.0 GHz Octa-core Cortex-A53 processor which is be backed by a Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 chipset. The processor provided in the phone works great and the use of next-gen Snapdragon 625 chipset seems to be an icing on the cake. With the provided hardware configuration, playing all kinds of games and videos would be no problem. Some lag or stutter might be observed while multi-tasking, however, they are occasional and quite rare in general performance. The smartphone comes with 32GB of internal memory, which could be expanded up to 256 GB using the Hybrid SIM card slot provided in the phone. The phone runs on Android platform and works on Android OS, version 6.0.1 i.e. Marshmallow with the help of Xiaomi MIUI 8 UI. The smartphone is provided with a 3GB of RAM to give the users a smooth experience while navigating through various apps on the phone. The phone supports 4G/LTE networks and allows dual SIM compatibility.
The phone shall feature a 13MP, f/2.2 primary camera that would be supported by phase detection autofocus and dual tone dual-LED flashlight. The front camera shall come with 5 MP, f/2.2 camera. HD Video recording can be done by the camera at frames like 1080p@30fps. The images captured by the camera are decent, and that’s about it. The images captured by the phone lack a certain amount of detail and sometimes turn out to be dull. Contrary to the rear camera, the front shooter works impressively well. The smartphone features loudspeaker that which we found out that it didn’t get loud enough. A 3.5mm audio jack with active noise cancellation and the dedicated mic is also provided in the phone.
The battery provided in the smartphone is a whopping 4100 mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery. In day to day life, the battery can easily work up to two days with moderate to heavy usage. The phone also support fast charging. The smartphone backs basic functions, such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.1 with A2DP and LE, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Infrared, FM Radio and microUSB. The infrared blaster provided in the smartphone shall help the users to use the smartphone as a remote control. Apart from fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass sensor are provided in the phone.
